Members, Here are a few tips for those who may be struggling to catch a few winks: €¢Try to get on a sleep schedule. Go to bed at a regular time each night and get up at a regular time in the morning. Try to not stay up late watching TV and try not to sleep during the day. If you get on a sleep schedule, we guarantee that you€™ll begin to feel better. €¢Try to make the room you sleep in as quiet as possible. Consider ear plugs or a sleep mask. €¢Use your bed only for sleeping. Don€™t lounge around in your bed. If you spend too much time lounging in bed, watching T.V., drinking coffee, or eating, your body will learn that your bed is NOT a place for sleeping. €¢If you can€™t sleep after half an hour in bed don€™t stay in bed trying to sleep. Get up and do some quiet activity. For example, read a book for a half hour and then try going back to bed. If you still can€™t sleep, get up and do something quiet once again. €¢Try to keep your bedroom at a comfortable temperature - not too cold and not too hot. €¢Try to get some exercise every day. You€™ll feel better and sleep will come much quicker. €¢Try not to exercise or work hard late in the evening. It could make you feel €˜wired€™. €¢Don€™t drink anything with caffeine or alcohol for 4 hours before you go to bed. €¢Try not to eat a heavy meal in the evening. Don€™t eat just before you go to bed. €¢If you€™re not sleeping at night, avoid naps during the day. €¢Use relaxation techniques. Deep breathing may help you relax at bed time. Mother of God...if it were up to me I'd never leave my bed. Of course a great percentage of the time I lay there counting cracks in the ceiling. I work 12 hour overnight shifts, so my sleep schedule's a little screwy anyway, but I take awhile to fall asleep, and I rearely ever stay asleep. It's a hell of a thing. I'm on Lexapro currently, with the occasional Xanax. (That will usually help me nod off, in worst case scenarios.) Could it be from Lexapro?

I've found something that seems to work for me and helps me drift off more easily. When I get in bed I get comfortable and then close my eyes whilst looking at something I like - I have a view over a yacht marina, I am very lucky I know. Then I deliberately snuffle...sort of in the back of my throat/nose in a soft semi snoring kind of way. It doesn't take any effort or concentration and for some reason it helps. It may not actually be the reason I go to sleep but I like to think it has an effect.

I sleep about 2-3 hours at night, 2-3 hours in the morning and 2-3 hours in the late afternoon. I'm on Prozac. Does anybody have a similar sleep pattern? hope

I go to sleep with no problems but getting restful is another story. The day day before I get panic attacks I only sleep about 5-8 hours( I usually need at least 9 to feel functionable) and the whole time i feel very aggitated and irritable. I wake up around dawn and spend about 45 min. falling back asleep and wake back up around 11:00AM

Well, I recently have insomnia too now! It's been about a week and a half since this started. I can't sleep through the night. I can fall asleep, but I also wake up almost every hour, and I can't fall back asleep easily (or stay asleep). I'm not anxious or scared when I wake up, and I'm SUPER tired, yet I just can't sleep. It's SO frustrating, and I don't know what the problem is, so I don't know how to fix it. I excercise every day (way before bedtime, usually around noon), I don't drink caffeine at any time during the day (just in case), and I try to go to bed and wake up at the same time every day. I am on Paxil, so maybe that's causing it. I was on Paxil 3 years ago for about a year and this didn't happen, but I know that our bodies change, so maybe Paxil isn't for me this time? I went to the doctor about it after 4 nights of really not sleeping at all (it was about a week after he raised my dosage from 10mg to 20mg) and he said to take gravol before bed for about 4 nights (since it makes you drowsy) and then we'd talk next week when I come back to see him (I go back on Friday). It hasn't made a difference. I really hope he does something for me this Friday!!! And now it's like I dread going to sleep because it seems like once this pattern started almost 2 weeks ago, it's like this EVERY night (I had one night of good sleep and I was SO happy!). Sigh...

veritasviaartis, Have you tried relaxation techniques before you go to bed? What about breathing techniques? For tonight, prepare by reducing your anxiety level as much as you can. Try a hot bath, some soothing music or a warm beverage? Try making sure you have a regular sleeping schedule. If you wake up in the middle of the night do some light stretches, or read a book to help you get to sleep. Take Care, Melanie ____________________________ The Panic Center Support Team

i've got sleep issues too. i never fall asleep before 2 am no matter what time i get up in the morning or how tired i am. i dont know what it is but once i get to my room im just not able to go to sleep. and recently i was staying up all night because i was afraid i was gonna stop breathing if i went to sleep. when i tried to sleep i couldnt breath unless i consciously made myself breath in, so i couldnt go to sleep. very odd.

Whatever works, right? I have had some awful insomnia lately. I watch a 3 years old and I 8 month old and I am exhausted by the end of my afternoon. But then I can not sleep at night. It stinks!!! I see every hour on the clock. I am always ready to get up and then by my 2nd cup of coffe, I am tired. I have tried hot baths and tea. I don't drink caffeine before bed. I don't want to be on meds to sleep but I am just pooped!!!
