Bad day yesterday

Yes - the st johns wort does work. I highly recommend to try it since if you are like me, you don't like to take meds. Heat can really set it off? I didn't think of that. I really didn't think it was that hot (only about 80 or so) It was the one cool day this week so that is why I was mowing. I'll look for the other item you mentioned at my local health food store. Can't hurt, right? I am doing a form of the support group. I don't have a computer at home so I use one at work. I have a book at home that takes you thru the CBT that my therapist gave me. I've been working on it, but keeping all the records can be difficult. There are worry records, daily mood records, anxious thought records, ect. How does anyone keep up with all this? I know it will help, but I could write all day long some days. I do enjoy the reading tho, and I really try to keep in mind and practice the processes the book mentions.

Charley, here are the physical things which can cause anxiety that I know of, there may be more. Heart problems(mitral valve prolapse-harmless usually), thyroid, hypo/hyperglocemia, lyme disease, adrenal disorder, hormones (the adrenal produces your hormones). You may want to try something called rhodiola rosea,(sp.?) which is considered an adaptagen. The Russians used to use it for the soldiers who had battle fatigue. I don't see it around a lot, but Nutri-system sites sell it. (helps with weight loss too!) I know I felt much better when I took it years ago. Maybe I'll get some, too. I'm not sure if you can take it along with St. John's Wort, as I believe they both raise seratonin levels. You may want to check with someone who knows herbs better than I. Have you been taking your lessons in here? I just had my 3rd one and it was very helpful as far as challenging strange thoughts. Like you ask yourself, is there any evidence that I would hurt someone? Also you were prob. out in the heat mowing, and I know a lot of people who have panic in the heat. One friend, who only ever had a panic attack once about 5 years ago, had a really bad one at an outdoors work mtg. last week. She was shaking and crying and could hardly drive home. Being in the sun has set me off before, and my stepmother gets them when it's humid. So, maybe if this happens again, you can ask yourself if your feeling ok physically. According to Lucinda Basset's course, weird stray thoughts like that usually come from an outside source of stress. Hope this helps, Cathie

how has st john's wart worked for you? I don't like the idea of being on "serious" meds and am looking for an alternative.

I heard that about OCD and my therapist had me take a test to check for that and a few other anomalies. Test had 175 statements on it and you had to say true/false to all. I really wouldn't be surprised w/the OCD part since I have always said I sometimes get "loops" going in my head. You think and think about one subject and can't get it resolved or worry incessantly about it.

Charley, I have had that happen before where I was convinced I was going to be in the psych ward, I was scared I'd hurt myself or my kids, etc. I totally agree with Cathie. We are highly sensitive in feeling and emotions. I have read that people who go "crazy" are out of touch with reality and don't know they're going crazy. If we fear going crazy, that means we're not because we wouldn't be aware of it if we were. We're just scared we might. I have also read that OCD, which can go hand in hand with panic disorder, can cause symptoms such as a fear that you may hurt the ones you love.

What physical things should I have my dr. look at? I'm not on any meds - only st johns wort since most meds make me so sick and dopey. any idea of how to stop or get thru this type of thing?

A dr. friend of mine is convinced i still have lyme disease also, which can mimic schitz. I do not act schitz., just anxiety, but there are a number of physical things u should check out; have you done this? Also, remember, people with anxiety are the opposite of "crazy people," they are out of touch with reality; we are overly tuned in, and very sensitive. Hope this helps, Cathie

I had a bout with this years ago, when I wa afraid I would hurt my kids. I prayed about it, and that night 60 minutes did a feature on Halsion, a sleeping pill i was on, and the side effects, and it is the only med. successfully used as a defense in a murder trial. I got it from a "natural" Dr. who had his own radio show. I went cold turkey and it was similar to how they describe heroin withdrawal. Cathie

I had a really bad day yesterday and not sure what to think of it. I had my normal anxxiety symptoms in the morning and they let up a little in the afternoon til about 1:30 or so. then the thoughts crept in. by the time I left work at 3, my chest was tight and I had a hard time breathing. decided the best thing to do is go home and work it off. i was alone at home since my kids were at their grandma's and my hubby at work. i was mowing the lawn, when I became convinced i was going to hurt either the kids or myself, that i was going to go crazy and be institutionalized and that i had schitzophrenia. it got so bad that 1/2 way thru mowing, i bent over and had a crying fit. after that, the symptoms let up a little but it really scared me. has anyone had this happen?
