Klonopin vs. Ativan

Hello, At first I was given Lorazepam with the Zoloft -- and I took for a few months and slowly my psychiatrist put me on Klonopin...I found the Lorazepam to be more 'addictive' and now I have been trying to take the Klonopin once a day rather than twice a day... Hope this helps... Hang in there... B

When I went to emergency by ambulance I was give Ativan 1mg and it calmed me down right away.. it's very fast acting. The emerg doctor wrote me a prescription for 5 tablets and I had to use them over 6 days. I had to go to emergency again (taxi this time) and the doctor order a CT done and gave me a prescription for 10 tablets of Lorazepam 1mg (same a Ativan apparently but takes more time to work). I find Lorazepam takes about 20 - 30 minutes to have a nocticable affect on me but it does calm me right down. It is supposed to make you tired but I don't find that it makes me sleepy at all. Both emergency doctors and my GP have warned me that it can be very addictive and i shouldn't take more that 1 per day. Ativan did make me more drowsy that the Lorazepam though.

I have been taking Klonopin for a few months now and it has helped -- I definitely see a difference. I take it with the Zoloft. I take .25mg in the morning and one in the evening...although I do not take it every evening only when I feel anxious. I hope this helps. Good luck. Best, B

I was taking Klonopin every night before bed and found it very helpful (I now only take it when I need it which seems to average once or twice a month.) I have heard that Ativan is a bit stronger. It may also make you very tired (I was given it in the ER and it made me very sleepy.) Hope you feel better soon.

Hi, I am new to this site and am grateful to have found it! I suffer from panic disorder with agorophobia. I haven't really travelled anywhere in 3 years due to avoidance (and lack of support on the home front) and my anxiety is getting worse. In particular, it's the "anticipatory anxiety" that is eating at me. The dosage of Klonopin I take is very low - prescribed as .5mg but I break it in half and take .25mg in AM and .25mg. in PM. I'm afraid to take more because it makes me tired. I know I should, but I just get more anxiety about that! Needless to say, I don't think the Klonopin helps me much, especially with the anticipatory anxiety. I am currently in therapy with a wonderful doctor whose specialty is panic disorders. I just started seeing him again last week. I'm not sure that I'm ready to tackle any of this without medication yet and I've heard people say that Ativan helps more with the anticipatory anxiety than the Klonopin. I just received a script for 10 Ativans, .5mg to try it out. Just wondering if anyone had any positive experiences with Ativan (or Klonpin for that matter.) Thank you!!!
