thinking too much!

I think for me thinking too much is the main problem, I think about why are we here, what's the point of doing the dishes, what's the point of making myself look nice, everything just seems so pathetic and then I just freak oút. The worse scenario is when I'm on the bus on my own, I start thinking about things and then, oh my god, I need to get off this bus, feeling sets in and then panic stations I can't tell the bus driver to pull over, I can't start screaming on the bus because everybody will think I'm mad, I thought that if I brought a book with me and read all the way but then I get dizzy and disorientated, I bring my Cd player with me and that seems to help a little...It easy for people just to say "just try and relax, switch off" but as we all know, sometimes it's just impossible.. wish I knew what causes me to act this way....any suggestions?

Does anyone else out there have obsessive thought patterns about meaning of life, what does it all mean anyway, etc? These are the thoughts that set off my panic attacks and I'm curious about others experiences because they're so scary.

Hi Gina, My heart goes out to you. I have an anxiety disorder also. I think it is the nature of our disorder to think about it all the time. It is a vicious cycle. We have a panic attack and it is so horrible, our minds dwell on having another one. We get tense, start breathing shallow, and the cycle repeats itself. I want to share my personal experience. Last week, I tried a new approach. I came up with the idea that I am going to try to change my thought process. The negative thoughts do come into my mind but I started to make myself think positive thoughts as well. I thought, "Okay God who can I bless today and how can I bless them." Every day I have thought of something to do for others. It maybe send a card, say a prayer, send someone a cd I think they will enjoy. I am getting together a group of women to attend "The Menopause Musical" that is coming to our area. I am going to go and laugh and have a good time. YES!!! It seems as I start to concentrate on this goal every day and think about other people, I don't obsess about myself. "As a man thinketh in his heart, so he is". I am not saying this is easy. But, take little steps. When you start to have that overwhelming feeling, tell yourself."I am not going to allow these thoughts to control me. I am not going to dwell on this. I am going to sit down and write a note to someone who has made an impact on my life." Do it whether you feel like it or not. I can tell you from experience that doing something nice for someone will give you joy. It will give your life meaning. Have a good day today.

Hi Gina, Sounds like you are a worrier, it's not a bad thing, I am too. Alot of people are. Our minds are always working ahead. Thinking of later, tomorrow, next week, next month. What needs to be paid etc. I get the lump in the throat, it's scary. The first time I got it I was eating Mr. Noodles. I felt like I couldn't even swallow the noodles. I freaked out and threw myself into a major panic attack. It took me to the point of unreality, didn't want to be where I was, I had to get out. Needed air. I guess sometime it just gets the better of us. But hopefully the more you talk about it, the more people will help you and the better you will start to feel. I know once I start talking to people it feels like a load has been lifted. Good Luck, Remember one day at a time. Today might not be good, but tomorrow is a different day. Kathy/Kuddy. My name is coming up two differnt ways???? for some reason.

Woody, Have you taken our Anxiety test? You can take this to your doctor and this may help better assess the situation. Please try our Panic Program, it is very useful and helpful. We also suggest you keep a Panic Diary to help you reflect and look back or perhaps help find pinpoints that will direct you to the root of your anxiety. It is okay to talk to your husband and mother. It is not ok to keep it all inside. This is also what the diary is for, write your feelings down and also try to reduce you stress level. Try doing stretches or yoga. Warm drinks or baths and even a relaxing book will assist in lowering your stress and anxiety levels. Hope this helps, Josie _______________________________ The Panic Center Support Team.
