Peteg, So glad you've come back! I miss your wise posts! And yes, those 9 shining months mean a lot! It means you absolutely know what to do and how to do it! Get your head back in the game! Pete, in 9 months, think of how that little child in your photo grew...what a sweetheart! Now, print out some of the best of these replies...plus print out that picture of your little one and put in your pocket..right there where you used to carry that pack of cigs....and see if looking at those don't help! Stress is a huge trigger, believe me, I know. I had been a non smoker for 6 months, then my Mom went blind overnight, we have had her her living with us for 8 yrs. and it took us this long to finally be able to once again say we don't smoke...and we won't!! We smoked for stress relief, 24 hour caregiving is a definate stressor, but if I had only realized 8 yrs ago that cigs are NOT the answer, it would have saved us so much money and helped my husband's health immensely! A cigarette really isn't what you need....trust me. Anyway, hang tough...and I sure hope that some of these wonderful people on here and their great ideas will help! Stay Warm! (( )) Hugs to the baby! Pete - Did you ever find your "inner grown up" because I don't think that I have one!!??? Yeppers - that 9 months meant lots - I'm sure that you learned alot. I had my first major crave today after a very nasty meeting when I was totally stressed out. The good news is that all those days behind me have taught me that I can survive this without a cigarette. I have to remind myself that I am physically and mentally stronger than I ever was when I smoked...now if only I could find that inner grown up!!!! (I didn't smoke...but the thought of "accidently" backing over someone only crossed my mind for a second) Windy My Milage: My Quit Date: 9/11/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 539 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 10,780 Amount Saved: $2,695.00 Life Gained: Days: 52 Hrs: 12 Mins: 42 Seconds: 26

Pete, sorry I missed this. Are you staying in a hotel? Because hotels almost always have a business center or computer that you can use to check in with us. Libraries, too! Where there's a will, there's a way, pete, and that applies not only to finding a computer, but keeping your quit. You can do it! I'm not sure how long you will be gone.. Print outs and photos are a great idea. Also libraries or collges have computers for use. If you can get to one of those after work. The 9 month Quit was wonderful.. and it was 9 months of your life you were smoke free. Just think 9 months for a baby .. Just picture that junke as the tazmanian devil .. i picture knocking his block off with a baseball bat. You want to be smoke free and healthy for the Beautiful grandbaby.. baby wants you to smell nice for cuddles and kisses. REMEMBER N O P E.. I ran around with (and still do ) with NOPE running around in my head.. Pete, this is the time when we need to make the decision NOT to smoke even when our mind is SCREAMING for just one. Because that's the only way to win this war - and especially in the beginning it really can be a battle! I really liked how Elaine described the Junkie Thinking,
it's THE most powerful weapon in our inner junkies arsenal -making a delusion look like a conviction
You can do this trip smokefree and come back stronger than ever before in your quit! No matter what (your mind tells you) do not smoke! You are so right, Elaine. Now all I have to do is find my inner grown-up who agrees with you. the 9 months meant you have the tools to overcome the'just one' (or 'just one pack') delusion. you know just one or just one pack sets a quit back to day1. you know that's the price you'll pay AT A MINIMUM. the maximum price is that you mightnever quit again. 'just one (pack)' is the delusion that proves to me that the addict that lives in my unconscious is stubborn, repetitive and not very bright. i've totally seen through the 'just one' delusion, i know i'm like an alcoholic that can't have one sip, i can't have one puff because i never want to quit again and one puff gives me a full fledged withdrawal syndrome.day one. no thanks. done that two dozen times already. and yet my inner junkie still offers me the just one fantasy most days, just comes into my head. so i answer it with my adult conscious mind -I no longer believe in just one you junkie, so you're wasting your time. next day junkie brain produces the exact same thought 'just one'. it's THE most powerful weapon in our inner junkies arsenal -making a delusion look like a conviction - i can have one, a pack, two. yes you can, it's called being a smoker.if you truly comprehend 'just one' you'll never smoke again elaine My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/4/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 58 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,160 Amount Saved: 432.10 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 15 Mins: 2 Seconds: 28
