Hi Rebecca, My name is melissa and i used to be on Zoloft which worked for awhile but now i have switched to a brand new med called: Cymbalta. I have only been on it for 3 days but i feel a little better allready. It makes me a bit sleepy and i have some headaches. But i am also weening of of the zoloft at the same time. You just have to see what works for you. It takes awhile so don't get discouraged. Give it some time and were all here for you.

Hi Rebecca, I was in the exact situation as you about a month ago. I was dead set against meds and had read up on all the most scary side effects online possible. I in general have a fear of meds (even advil)....I put meds off for MONTHS! One night I had a major attack in the car with my boyfriend and he drove me to the hospital, I walked in and 5 minutes later walked out shaking and crying... but more fed up and angry at this than anything else. At that point my doctor said "why are you doing this to yourself" and I finally said what the heck, the side effects can't possibly be anyworse that how totally ****py I was already feeling every day. I started Paxil CR 12.5mg for a week and it didn't really do much except make me nauseaus and more anxious, then I went back to the doctor and tried the 10mg of reg paxil. I have been on that for about 3 weeks now and feel much better than before, have mild side effects like it makes me tired for about 3 hours after I take it...so I take it at night. Also headaches but I had them before and slight nausea which seems to be going away...they say it takes a month to be fully working in your system. I think I will be going up to 20mg's though because my Phsyc doc thinks its better to be on a full dose than on a lower waivering dose that is borderline helping me and borderline not...because I still have some anxiety. After all you have been through I dont think it could get any worse. I know how you feel, but ask yourself why these drugs are made? obviously there are so many people out there who needed help that they had to come up with something, they were created for problems like ours. I plan to be on this untill I feel like I dont' need them anymore, hoping it wont be more than a year but am not putting any pressure on myself. It may take a while to figure out which drug works for you or you may hit if off with the first brand. I always say to myself the only thing we have to be afraid of is fear itself, without the fear there is no panic :)

hi rebecca, my anxiety is really bad and so is the nausea. i wanted to get over the anxiety by myself without the use of meds. i have finally reached the point where i am willing to accept my anxiety and swallow my pride and take meds. i have been taking celexa 20mg for about a week now without any side effects at all. i also have noticed that my anxiety seems to be better already. i went to see a show the other night that normally i would be freaked out, but i was fine!!!! also i think that now i have accepted that i have a illness and not to be ashamed of it has been great for me. also talking on this forum and writing a panic diary in addition to the meds have been a great help. number one is have a postive attitude. best of luck sarah

Do what's right for you and keep coming to this board. When I was at my worst, this board was a huge support! I looked forward to coming home so I could check in and be with people who understood. Things have been great for me for sometime now, but I still check in to see how everyone is doing. Hope all is well.

Thank you Jeff, that sounds darn nice after the first week. I've been so bad I live in terror of being alone, it's getting to be a big mess with me. Maybe I better start the meds when someone will be home for a few days.

Rebecca, For me it is Lexapro, 10 mg per day. Have been on it for a few months now. My Dr. told me going in that there could be some increased anxiety at first. I won't sugar coat it, for me the first week was a living nightmare. I had more panic attacks in the first week than I ever had in my life. However, after the first week, it has been incredible. Panic free since then, no panic attacks and no notieable anxiety. The hardest part was getting over the stigma of needing a med as it is my first one. However, I knew I needed extra help as my anxiety was not going away. Now I don't even think about it. Just one little pill each morning, and my life is back to normal. Meds can certainly work! Best of luck, let us know how you are doing.

I read about the possible sied effects of the SSRI's and it scares me. The possible agression, possible increased risk of suicide, and a ton more. I just don't know how prevalent these are and if it's worth the risk. Anyone elses thoughts on the side effects of the drugs or heard much about it?

Thanks adreniline, Well the Doctor had suggested the Paxil before to me and I told her I wanted to wait. I was a little concerned about the side effects. I am going to go see the Doctor here now in about half an hour and discuss it again with her. I had horrible panick last night and some yesterday earlier. I'm just about at the end of my rope here. The ER gave me a xanax last night but after going home and reading I see that it said taking it with flexeril which I am on isn't a good idea due to over sedation, BLAH.

Rebecca, I had taken Paxil for about nine months total, it worked for me. The only side effect I had was some weigth gain which didn't bother me. I had gotten so thin from the anxiety. That was probably about 13 years ago. Would take it again if needed. My mom has been on Paxil for about 5 years with no problems and she is 72 years old. You have to give it some time to work. There is a lot of new meds out there to chose from these days. Talk with your doctor also about it. We are all an experiment of one. What works for me may not always work for others. It is a good idea to ask others what worked for them to get some in put, great question. You could also take these ideas to the doctor and he could help you sort out the best meds for you. Good luck and let us know how it goes.
