redface, I read your post, and the first thing that came to mind to me was that inviting people over, or going out with people is exhausting for those of us not comfortable in social settings. you said that you want to get together with others once a week. I know for myself that this would be a huge goal. It may be perfectly suiting for you, but if not, do not give up hope. You may be comfortable, and feel more fullfilled if you aim at getting together with others a couple times a month, and stepping it up from there if you feel things are going well and you would like to. I don't know you, but I that meeting once a week for many people with social difficulties may be overwhelming, especially in the beginning. Good luck to you!!! :) I hope i didn't sound discouraging, because that's not the message i was trying to get across!

thats a hard thing for me too, to see people now
that im agoraphobic and have bad panic attacks. i
wish i could just invite people over and not be
uncomfortable. im trying now to reconnect with my
friends. i dont have many success stories about
this stuff but maybe we can talk about it anyway
and work out some ways to accomplish our goals
by talking it out.
I am trying to get my husband to support me (crutch for now), to invite people out or to our home more often, so I can work on my social goals. I want to invite people over or plan something with someone at least once a week just for fun. I have a real hard time doing this with people who are also socially withdrawn. Has anyone out there been successful at this type of goal therapy for social phobia or good at overcoming erythrophobia?
