Is A Slip the same as a Fall?

for 17 år siden 0 1543 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Wow HadEnough, Hard questions. I never had a slip!! I only fell. Not the first floor window kind of fall...more like falling off a high rise's rooftop!! :8o: The only thing with not changing meters....or substracting days is that it "may" become a kind of game. Us smokers are good at that. Like .....being good for 10 days would allow for a subtraction of one day for the party Saturday night. I think most here would not do that if they sliped.(including you) Unhooked has a point, that it is overkill to take away all our days for a few puffs/slip. It seems more fare to subract a day as a lesson learned. I did appreciate that the stats say....."smoke free days" and I know my stats are precious and the fear of seeing a (0) helped keep me on the straight and narrow...............so the stats do have a purpose and need to mean something. But.....you'd never want to ruin a good quit over being upset about losing hard earned stats you deserved. Go with what you are feeling inside. I know I have ruined diets that were working by throwing in the towel over a Hershey Bar! How silly. I'd rather congradulate you on your awesome 56 days...and cheer you on to your two months celebration. You Go Girl. Hey.....we're not perfect. If we were.....we would have never smoked. right? Forward HadEnough....just go Forward!!! Good question HadEnough & I think one we all have to answer for ourselves. My only slip was an entire pack so I would say I fell off & the wagon ran me over. If I had just a couple of puffs, I would still call it a slip because I have promised NOPE. I wouldn't set my meter back to 0, but I would subtract a day because the meter tracks smoke-free days & that would not be one. What each of us does or would do in this case is a personal decison, I think, based on our promise to ourselves & those around us, our motivation, & our commitment to what smoke-free means. Good luck, whatever you decide is right for you.. HadEnough, Our members will be along shortly to share their experiences with you. From a moderator' standpoint, what you do with your meter is entirely up to you. It is your motivational tool and you should chose the option that will motivate you the most. Be honest with yourself. The reasoning behind our standpoint is simply this: if you don't reset your meter and you continue to smoke. You're only lying to yourself and you are the only one who is going to pay the price for that lie. Danielle, Bilingual Support Specialist

A lot of people have had a moment of weakness and picked up that cigarette and smoked it. It may be days, weeks or a month after committing to quit, usually accompanied by an inner dialogue telling yourself you are stupid. I had such a moment a week ago at a neighborhood block party. Everyone there was smoking but me. All of a sudden I found myself with a lit cigarette in hand. I had taken two puffs then immediately put it out. In the ensuing days I did not think about it. I was not inclined to go running to the store to buy more cigarettes and did/do not have horrible cravings So I ask all of you who have had that moment of weakness .. is a slip as good as a fall? Are we honor bound to reset our meters back to zero? Personally for me, I say no. One cigarette does not constitute a failure if I continue to be smoke free after one slip. How many slips constitute a fall? Whats your opinion?
