Different This Time Around

Kathaleen I don't have any real experience in the type of anxiety you are asking about, but I did want to let you know that your post is attached to the end of mine about another topic. I think you might get a better response if you start a new strand of your own. That way, people can respond to you directly. Good luck and best wishes. Jason

Does anyone out there have a fear of writing in front of people. I have had this fear for the past month and is taking over my life. I think about it all the time. Any suggestions or help.

Just an update here...what looked like IBS to me is actually ulcerative colitis. So, I am now looking at two lifelong illnesses - Panic and colitis. This has not been a good week for me. Anyone else out there with this combination of issues? At the moment, the whole thing feels like more than I can take. Jason

Hi Thanks again for the reassurance. I am anxious about the test - big surprise. But I also think knowing one way or the other will help me be less anxious going forward. I appreciate the diet advice and am glad your "equipment" works the way it should. I am truly sorry for the loss of your family members. Thanks for your support. I'll post the outcome tomorrow... J~ I know this weekend you are going to be anxious about the colonoscopy coming up. Just rest assured that it is a precaution and the chances are hight that IBS is the culprit. I too have had the colon cancer scare (my father died at 50 of colon cancer as did all my uncles) but low and behold after many tests (colonoscopy included) I was told that I have a perfectly normal and healthy equipment. After much reading, research, and great docs it is fairly common for GAD, panic disorder and depression to have the sidekick IBS come along for the ride. I can also offer that a higher protein diet w/ lots of fresh produce(not jumping on the Atkins bandwagon) has done wonders for me. Try to relax and enjoy the rest of your weekend...and remember you are not alone. Tam

Mara Thanks so much! Your post could not have come at a better time. Because the symptoms have gone on so long I have to have a colonoscopy on Monday, 6/21. I am so afraid it is cancer. Your post helps so much to know there are others like me and that it could just be IBS. I spend so much time afraid and certain that I am the only one who lives like this. I am sorry for your experience...I do understand the stress. Celexa was a wonder drug for me the first time around. I will also tell you that Klonipin has been helping to relieve some symptoms for me. It worked better than Ativan and took only 2 days to kick in. So, something to talk with your Dr. about when you go in. My good wishes for quick relief. I think we all should be enjoying warm summer days, not hiding in the house waiting for the next "attack." My best to you! Jason

Your story sounds so much like mine. I had the "classic" symptoms for about a year. I ended taking seroquel and Ativan and the panic went away for 2 1/2 years. Then the reboud of severe IBS like symptoms. I am starting Celexa this week to see if it will help me. I just wanted to let you know that you are not alone.

Trish I had breakthrough panic starting around Thanksgiving, 2003. I struggled with it until late January, hoping it would go away. Finally went to the psychiatrist then and started the Lexapro and others from there. I am feeling some effects from Paxil and am hoping that this is start of better days. Thanks for the information and advice. Have not started Klonipin yet-Dr. says to wait for a weekend since sedation is likely. We'll see... JMC

JMC, Just curious were you having breakthrough panic while on the Celexa, or just when your doctor changed it to the Lexapro? Benzo's help tremendously on the start up effects of SSRI's, ie Paxil, etc. glad your taking a tad klonopin with it. IBS is common with panic disorder, or lots of times, not an official diagnosis of it, but bouts of loose bowels is a strong indicator of anxiety and stress. It helped me to prepare for the day, by taking some Immodium or something to settle down my stomach before I left. The paxil will kick in soon, actually your past the mark of the dosage of 12.5 mg and are probably feeling better with the time period of 25mgs, just couple more weeks you will see marked improvement as the full dosage your on now to feel the full effects. And yes, everyday is another chance. Hang in there.

Redface Thanks so much. I appreciate your insight. I hope your improved state continues. I am working on that relaxation thing. Each day another chance, right?
