Zoloft is the miracle med for me...it worked wonders back in the day when i wsa 16 and agoraphobic and i was just put back on it again...i can tolerate it pretty well too.. Xanax i can't i am an addict so i can't take it...but it helps for some that do not have the addictive personality and are modulated on it. best wishes!

I had tried Zoloft back in '01 for dire PMS symptoms, I lost my sex drive big time, but I was more mellow. At my next exam, I discussed things and was given Celexa, to be taken about 10 days a month. Worked well, noticed no side effects. I'm not really consistent with taking meds or vitamins, etc. so I haven't taken any in months.

I take Lexapro and Xanax also. The only thing is that you need to eat before you take your Lexapro or it can upset your tummy. I take it with breakfast or sometimes it makes me a bit sleepy so after dinner. It works fast..in 2 weeks I felt so much better!

Ok, here's my update. I was able to get a hold of the dr. that prescribed the zoloft. She said that she thinks that the vomiting (and constant diarhea) was a reaction to the zoloft. She said that the medication does cause nausea and upset stomach short term, and that I am probably just more sensitive to the point where it led to vomiting. She advised me to stop taking the zoloft, (especially since I've only used it for 2 days), and she said she could start me on Lexapro or celexa. She was going to call in a prescription right then, but then she said she had samples of Lexapro so I told her I'll pick up the lexapro samples this week. Hope this one works out ok. Any info on Lexapro now! Oh no, here I go again!

Hi Ladybug, Some people react more severely than others. Even so, an allergic reaction tends to be more around throat constiction causing breathing difficulties and skin rashes etc. Nausea, headaches and excessive sweating are common side effects with zoloft and some other SSRIs. Nausea can make you vomit, or have diarhea or constipation. Anxiety can also do this to you - the changes that the drug makes initially can make you so anxious that you feel sick. This certainly happened to me. The good news is that these types of side effects tend to pass quickly - 3-5 days and will diminish considerably over time. My luvox made me feel so weird at first that I didnt eat for around 3 days, which i really abnormal for me. I was depressed too though so its hard to tell if it was the drug, anxiety or depression looking back. Now, I strongly recommend you see your dr quickly and let him know you are having these side effects, especially if they persist. SSRIs do require continuous dosing, so if you want to give it a chance to work you need to continue taking as directed by your dr. He/she will be able to help determine if you are really experiencing an adverse reaction, or if it is just the side effects and the way you are reacting to them. Have you changed your eating habits as a result of the zoloft? Often its recommended that you take SSRIs with food to minimise the nausea. Remember that if you are feeling extra anxiety at the moment, it is almost certainly the "jittery syndrome" which is a really common inital reaction to an SSRI. It should pass after 1-2 weeks, and you will almost certainly start to feel better as the side effects diminish. The problem with SSRIs is that when prescribed for people with anxiety disorders, we already have a low threshold to bodily changes (which is why we tend to get anxious and panic), so the side effects make us more anxious. Dont be afraid to use your xanax as directed by your dr to calm down while the zoloft is taking effect. It could be a couple of weeks before you stablise, but you wont know yourself once it starts to work properly. Have you read the consumer advice for zoloft? Usually it comes with the drug. If your pharmicist di

Ladybug, If you feel that you are experiencing side effects please stop the medication and see you doctor as soon as possible. It is best to make sure these are side effects and not the flu. Keep us posted and let us know how you do. Melanie

Help! I think I am reacting to the meds already and it's only been 2 days! (Zoloft). The 1st day I was constipated, then nauseaus and I felt very hot (sweating at times)...but not too major and I was able to deal with it. The next morning, I had diarhea. 2nd day I was sweating again and woke up feeling sick! Had diarhea, then was vomitting! That was scary and I feel awful! Is this what I have to deal with if I continue with Zoloft? I don't know what to do! I need to go to work during the week! But this is making me feel so sick today!

Ladybug, Just my own experience but I didn't notice being more anxious or having a "high" feeling when I started taking Zoloft. In fact the only difference I noticed was that I gradually day by day started to feel better & more relaxed. But I have never felt "high" or like I was in a drug induced state on Zoloft. I hope that makes you feel better.

They key is to keep busy with things you enjoy doing, stay relaxed as much as possible (and I know its so hard when you are at the peak of an anxiety disorder) - and try and enjoy the "high" feelings the drug will give you in those first few weeks. Learning to adapt to the way it makes you feel will help you to get the most out of it. It may feel difficult at times but the wait is generally well worth it. If you get really edgy, you have your xanax to calm you right down. Its best to try not to become too dependent on the xanax, but your dr has prescribed it to you for a reason remember. Meditation, yoga and relaxation techniques are all great, but generally you need to be at least a little relaxed before you can get benefit from these. For me, I wasnt ready for this until I was about 3 weeks into the drug and had already had some therapy. Good luck and keep posting here. You can do it!
