Hi Ladybug,
Some people react more severely than others. Even so, an allergic
reaction tends to be more around throat constiction causing breathing
difficulties and skin rashes etc.
Nausea, headaches and excessive sweating are common side effects
with zoloft and some other SSRIs.
Nausea can make you vomit, or have diarhea or constipation. Anxiety
can also do this to you - the changes that the drug makes initially can
make you so anxious that you feel sick. This certainly happened to
me.
The good news is that these types of side effects tend to pass quickly -
3-5 days and will diminish considerably over time. My luvox made me
feel so weird at first that I didnt eat for around 3 days, which i really
abnormal for me. I was depressed too though so its hard to tell if it
was the drug, anxiety or depression looking back.
Now, I strongly recommend you see your dr quickly and let him know
you are having these side effects, especially if they persist. SSRIs do
require continuous dosing, so if you want to give it a chance to work
you need to continue taking as directed by your dr. He/she will be
able to help determine if you are really experiencing an adverse
reaction, or if it is just the side effects and the way you are reacting to
them.
Have you changed your eating habits as a result of the zoloft? Often
its recommended that you take SSRIs with food to minimise the
nausea.
Remember that if you are feeling extra anxiety at the moment, it is
almost certainly the "jittery syndrome" which is a really common inital
reaction to an SSRI. It should pass after 1-2 weeks, and you will
almost certainly start to feel better as the side effects diminish.
The problem with SSRIs is that when prescribed for people with anxiety
disorders, we already have a low threshold to bodily changes (which is
why we tend to get anxious and panic), so the side effects make us
more anxious. Dont be afraid to use your xanax as directed by your dr
to calm down while the zoloft is taking effect. It could be a couple of
weeks before you stablise, but you wont know yourself once it starts to
work properly.
Have you read the consumer advice for zoloft? Usually it comes with
the drug. If your pharmicist di
