Paxil CR vs. Paxil

Well, I spoke to my doctor and what he suggested was to alternate taking the 12.5 mg Paxil CR and the 25 mg dose every other day. He felt since I have been on the lower dose for 7 weeks any side effects would be minimum. He suggested doing this for about a month and then if I felt the need to take 25 mg everyday or just keep alternating if it was working. I starting taking the higher dose Tuesday and have not had any bad side effects. Though I must admit that my anxiety level is up a bit, but I am realize this is just because I am changing the dose and a little worried about the side effects. I am trying to not think about it too much and keeping busy, which is helping. My doctor also told me that the Paxil CR is 1 1/2 times the dose of regular Paxil so the 12.5 mg is like taking 18.75 mg of regular Paxil.

Philip, I have been on Paxil, not the CR, as that is mostly pharma companies way of making more money, once the patent is up and the generic form paroxetine can be purchased. The same is happening with Xanax XR too. This way the time released new medicines can only be purchased by brand and not generic. Paxil does come in 10mg doses (the lowest), it might be best to get this for a couple of weeks taking 1 1/2 pills equaling a total of 15mgs. Slight increase for you without too much side effect, then the week after two pills equaling 20 mgs. Once your adjusted to that if your dr. feels 25mgs total is needed then you can go on up by using the Paxil CR 25mg. I also needed the extra xanax on my start up on medication as it made me more anxious. Trish

I have been taking 12.5 mg of Paxil Cr daily for about 6 weeks. I had a little nausea for a couple of weeks but that has passed. Initially my doctor wanted me to up the dose to 25 mg after the first week, which I did but it made me very sick after 2 days (severe nausea and loss of appetite) and I went back to 12.5mg. Though I am feeling a lot better now, I am still experience some anxiety every day, usually in the morning. I take .5 mg of Xanax that helps takes the edge off. I was thinking of talking to my doctor about increasing the dosage of Paxil, but I do not want to go all the way back to 25 mg. I would have to switch to the regular Paxil to take a lesser dose and was wondering if anyone else has switched from Paxil CR to Paxil and if they did was it helpful, did they experience side effects all over again?
