how am I supposed to do this?

When I walk around, just walk, I find that that gives me too much room to think and my panic gets worse. I'm with you ... do what feels right. I clean, read, write, talk to my companion, draw, sometimes excercise whatever fits at the moment. I try different things till something works. I also don't want to downplay your couselor, they can be so helpful, but there isn't one pat answer for everyone. Keep trying !!!! Peace, Nina5

If there was a book written for every position for having a panic attack, I would have had them all! I have had the total fetal position can't move paralyzing position. Then came the laying in bed, stiffened, while husband rubbed feet, and rubbed head, something about the endorpins being released during a head rub helps. I have had the gotta pace, walk, sip cold water, over and over. Sit and breathe (only works for minor attacks, more anticipatory). I think its the severity of the attack what pushes you into whatever position is best. Walking has helped me during the times I feel it coming on, but still distant enough away, that it regulates my breathing more, the subtle hyperventilation is what triggers the tingling beforehand, and pronounced hyperventilation that gives you the cant breathe, total dizziness sensation. And around and around we go......... Trish

That's what I feel like doing. Like lying down with someone next to me "just in case". I know this isn't always possible. I don't have panic attacks at home or in familiar places. I don't see myself lying down in the middle of a restaurant.lol. But that's my thinking! Shouldn't I do whatnfeels right to me, what feels safe? Thanks for the input.

I really don't want to down play what your therapist has recommended. But I strongly believe that what works for one person doesn't necessarily work for the next. Only you have first hand knowledge of your symptoms and feelings. So do whatever you feel would be best. For me it's lying down with my feet up. I was told that elevating your feet stops dizzyness and fainting. It really works for me, so you might want to give it a try. I find if I walk around in a panic it only makes things worse! Like I said it's different for everyone. Maybe your therapist knows something about you and has recommended you do this for a specific reason.

My therapist says "when you are having an attack, try to walk, it'll help the blood back into your extremeties and ease the symptoms". So I tell her that I get so dizzy that I can't stand...at all... She doesn't have an answer for that. She says "You have to try to stay where you are until it passes and continue your activitites from there." I don't see how I can do this, the symptoms get unbearable. Not dangerous, but not bareable. How am I supposed to do these things?
