New medication question...

for 18 år siden 0 9 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
I predict Big Tobacco is in trouble becasue of Chantix. If it's the miracle drug I think it is....I have less tahn 2 weeks to go before I finish my 12 weeks - but I'm pretty sure I'm going to sign up for another 12. My husband is a doctor so he can write the script for me. I've had him write it for both sisters - their husbands - my sister in law and her husband. They've been following my progress - and they think it's a miracle I've lasted this long. I know I'm not suppose to say it that way...but that's how I feel. My husband still has cigarettes in his car ( yes - I know he's a doctor and all...) but he only smokes like 3 a day. I was SO close to lighting one up. The only thing that stopped me was that NOPE phrase and that "wait 5 minutes and the see" mantra. I am so afraid of losing this battle. Sometimes the urge becomes so strong. I freak out when people tell me the urge never goes away. I had to send my sister in law away from my house today becasue I was so angry. " she can smoke - and I CAN'T" I know it's irrational - but that's how I felt.

Thanks SSC - you're right about being prepared. Can't be on it forever! I have to say, it's been a eye opener for me, Chantix. The first few weeks were hard but it's soooooooo much easier than all my other atempts. Thanks for replying! Any former Chantix users? I still have about 5 weeks to go on my 12 week treatment with Chantix. I'm finding that if I don't take the second pill at night, I'm doing well enought on the 1 mg pill I take in the morning. That said, I'm nervous stopping it. I do think it does something to my brain, releases some chemical that makes me not crave cigarettes, so my quesiton is, what happens when the pill ends. Will I feel the same as I do now - I can do this, pill or no pill? What has been your experience and if you're not there yet, have you thought about it? Thanks in advance. Thanks Gonnadoit! That is sooooooo reassurring - now off to find the other posts on it. Really helpful, I appreciate it. I've been telling everyone who will listen about Chantix (I did read it has LSD properties?, but I think that was a crackpot on the Web). marie My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/3/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 38 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,168 Amount Saved: $285 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 21 Mins: 29 Seconds: 55

LOL you're funny Aunt Deb - I'll search for Faith's post! You're 100% right about the nicotine being out of our system but it's a crutch for me I know it, I have an addictive personality ;) I'm sorry you went into a depression, I did after my brother and dad died. I too am in this for the long haul. Ok, I'll be shadowing you - you mind LOL :) Keep me posted please! I've been reading your updates and threads. Thanks for sharing. Marie, Faithfreedom has been using Chantix and she is the one who knows how it feels to let it go...she had a post on it the other day. Very informative. She said she was a bit edgy for a couple of weeks, but that it did ease up and she is fine now. I haven't stopped taking the Chantix since I started on it Dec 24. Let's look at it logically...we haven't smoked? so...the nicotine is gone! We should not have withdrawal symptoms at all. What we may experience is nervousness, because the Chantix is a brain medication. Our Doctors will be able to help if we need them, but pay attention to how you feel. I've already confronted my Dr with the what if then? I go back to see him March 30 and we will discuss how I am feeling. My concerns are with depression. After my cold-turkey quit years ago, I had severe depression and my family doctor helped me get up and get moving to work myself out of it. I volunteered as a teacher's aid, I took an adult typing course, I started exercising, and I finally enrolled in a vocational school and became a licensed Cosmetologist. ...and I did need help...I couldn't even carry on a conversation without crying. I'm ready for it now...should it happen. I will never smoke again...I don't care what it takes to keep this Quit...it's happening. auntdeb :gasp: "Faithfreedom.....where are you Marie needs some questions answered...please" My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 39 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,996 Amount Saved: $185.25 Life Gained: Days: 5 Hrs: 11 Mins: 50 Seconds: 50

Hello---I quit with Chantix, and as Auntdeb said, the only side effects I experienced was being a bit edgy or nervous for a few days. I think the only reason I felt that way was because I was expecting there to be some cravings or other side effects and there were not! What a quit and I am maintaining it with a strict adherance to NOPE! Keep up the good work! I tell everyone I meet that is interested in quitting about Chantix. CathyO, Learn from this experience. Have an emergency fall back for when strong craves set in. Don't be too hard on yourself. It takes many quitters some time before they can be around smokers again. Danielle _____________________ The SSC Support Team

My addictions counsler who runs our quit smoking classes and support groups says you can be on Chantix for up to a year. They go by the Mayo Clinics guidelines. I've thought about that too. I'm only on day 18 and would never have gotten this far without this drug. It definitely does something. Sometimes I wonder how I will continue without or if its all just a big trick. Either way I know exactly where you are coming from.
