Is it possible to just smoke when you drink...

for 18 år siden 0 25 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
I am not much of a drinker but they always went hand in hand for me. I was thinking about having a beer last nite but thought the urge would be to strong to have a smoke, so I didnt have the beer, which I really could have used!!! I also know people who only smoke when they drink, they are the part timers. They can go without a smolke till theur next drink. I cannot do that. My husband has a friend who was like that, now he has a pack in his glove box, that isnt his drinking smokes.

I LOVE to party with my girls. I've had to say no recently to protect my quit. I will party with them again, but I told myself it will be without smoking, and I will do it when I'm sure I can make it through an evening of chocolate martini's and no cigs, and not a minute before. Protecting your quit is most important. Lot's of non-smokers party without smoking...we can do it to some day. It seems in the afternoon, I am grabbin for beers instead of smokes ...this can't be good, it is not the coping mechanism I think is outlined in the roadtrip........one vice at a time though please! quittime, There is no such thing as just smoking when you drink, you are either a smoker or a non smoker. Trust me, I used to go out to bars with my friends and smoke 2 paks in a night. I have since continued to go out and, despite what evryone says, I have found it extremely easy to refrain, my GOD does it stink!!! In order to be a non smoker you must think like a non smoker, would they light up when drinking??? For sure not, I have non smoking friends and they wouldn't dream of it. The most helpful thing for me, my crutch, has been this: N.O.P.E. Remember it always, you cant take a break from quitting!! Look at you, you're doing great why would you want to lose it all?! Hang on, you know you can do it!! You CAN do it!!!! Don't let that nasty nicodemon win! I didn't read all the other answers because I can pretty well guess what they say. The answer is NO. Maybe a non-addict can do it but you aren't a non-addict so you can't. Normal patients at a hospital don't have a problem with a little morphine for pain but they don't like to give that stuff to an addict because of what will happen. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that I could drink without smoking.......but I do believe that I have been drinking more (when I am out). I mentioned this to a friend who said that she did the same thing - Made me realize that I want to be careful so I don't trade one addiction for another. Not smoking when drinking means you don't feel so bad the next day, if you 'mistakenly' overindulge. Smoking dehydrates us, as well as all the other nasty stuff it causes. So, give it a go... Deli - not an overindulger very often, promise! Those people who you know who can have "just one" when they drink are called social smokers... there's actually a gene that enables them to do that... and WE DON'T HAVE THAT GENE!!! Read The social smoker - what we need to know for more on this. The thing with "just one" is that it leads to "just one more" which leads to "just one pack" which leads to "just one carton" and so on... The MOST dangerous thing, however, with "just one" is that this process might not happen right away. It might take a few days, or even a few weeks or months before we get back to our normal consumtion amounts... but we always get there. Let's say you go to the bar one Saturday night and have one. That night, it might only be one. Then, you think "SEE! I CAN just have one!!!" No problem, right? Well, then the next time you're out at a bar, you have one and then one just isn't enough... so you have one more... but that's it. OK, you made it through that one alright... but then your friends are getting mad at you bumming off them, so the next time you're at the bar, you buy a pack, smoke a few out of the pack, let's say 5 or 6, and give the rest of the pack to your friend. Well, the next time you're out, you don't want to waste all that money on buying a pack and giving them away, but you also don't want to smoke very many, so you save them for "next time." Well, next time just can't come quick enough and soon, you're smoking NOT just while drinking, but all the time. That's what happens. As addicts, we can NOT have "just one." I learned that lesson the HARD way... MANY times... I hope you don't have to. Crave the Quit!
