One more question - Cravings and the Patch

for 18 år siden 0 99 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
You and I are going through the same exact thing. Especially after a nice evening hardy meal. It's like I almost forget I quit smoking then it hits me and I get really irritable. I'm doing the patch now for 3 days and I can still feel the taste of the nicotine in my tongue, sort of, if that makes any sense. The best thing for me is to take a hot shower and get ready for bed. I usually take a sleep aid and try to fall asleep as soon as possible. Reading and watching tv in bed helps me too until I nod off. good luck windy :)

Trust me, you're not alone. Today I had a salami snadwich for lunch and didn't think about a cigarette at all until I finished eating and then it hit me hard. :( But I just try hard to distract myself. btw. I have a persian cat that is the love of my life. His name is walter, he's a diva. Good luck and please post pics of your new fur baby if you bring him home :)

I'm using the lozenge instead of the patch, but still having strong cravings at certain triggers. I used to hurry and eat, not realizing I was hurring to go have a smoke or two or three :| , but am slowly learning to slow down and enjoy the food, especially since I can taste better now. That after dinner time is really hard to get through. Hey Hopeless...I always love to hear from you. Yep...t.v. and bed seem to be my best friends right now...although we are going out tonight to see a new baby kitten (possible new family member??) Glad I'm not the only one who has cravings while on the patch. Guess I'm going to be the post hog tonight....but I was just wondering about others who have used the patch. I'm only on day 8 of my quit and I am using the patch. These seems to help postpone my craving until after supper but it doesn't make them go away. The cravings physically feel like being very hungry and not having food or being very thirsty and not having water. Why am I having cravings when nicotine is still in my blood strem? Do other people have cravings while on the patch? I smoked about 20 cigs a day before quitting so I would think that 21 mgs should be plenty of nicotine in my system. Any/all feedback welcomed. I grab a gum and I'm off the clean up and do dishes. By the time I finish my craving is usually gone and I have the kitchen cleaned. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 9/7/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 13 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 134 Amount Saved: $52 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 3 Mins: 3 Seconds: 38

Hi Windy.....:) Yep I'm on the patch as well and yep the after eating thing has been really big for me. Up until now I have popped a half a nicotine lozenge under my tongue after eating and sucked for a little while and then put it aside. I can keep a half a lozenger going for half a day sometimes. I am stopping doing that though because I don't want to use two NRT products but gosh it has gotten me through the first week and well into the second. Congratulations Windy on having come so far....I feel like we are on this journey together as you and I quite on the anniversary of that unforgettable day in history. I will never be able to forget the date I quit. For me it seems to add even more significance to the journey. When I think of what I am giving up it is nothing compared to that event and what was lost to the world. My thoughts are with you Windy......:) Savvvy My Milage: My Quit Date: 9/11/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 9 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 199 Amount Saved: $72 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 3 Mins: 59 Seconds: 4

Hi, I use a sharp knife and cut the NRT lozenge (2 mg) into 4 pieces. Each time, when the craving becomes untolerable, I use the NRT inhaler first - one or two puffs should do the trick. If the craving doesn't calm down, I use 1 small piece of the lozenge . It works ! :) nmc My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 27 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 270 Amount Saved: $135 Life Gained: Days: 5 Hrs: 0 Mins: 31 Seconds: 41

The elusive after dinner smoke. It's a tough one to shake. I sure felt the effects of it tonight! I'm on the 21mg patch as well, Windy, and I smoked 30 cigs a day. I don't seem to have any physical cravings, for me they are all psychological. I used to love my after dinner cig outside on the swing. Now, I eat my dinner, get up from the table right away and either come online to post or walk the dogs. I do both before the evening is through, and then I feel better. I really try hard not to think about that smoke. It gets easier with practice. Keep strong and keep posting, Windy. I'll tell you what I did. At first that after dinner crave was the worst. But everytime after dinner I would go straight for a Cream Saver, you can get them sugarless too, anyway it wasn't quite as satisfying as a cig at first but it helped. I am on the patch too and am on 14 mg now. After the first couple of weeks it became a habit so now I crave a cream saver after dinner, not a cig. Good luck!!
