Windy Hi ;)The patch takes the edge off. Remember there are 4000 other chemichals in a cigarette you are withdrawing from all of them, not only nicotine. Now in a cigarette you can have up to 2.5 mg of nicotine 21 divided by 2.5=8.4 cigarettes, there's bound to be some withdrawal, imagine what it would be without, it ask Phil when he returns LOL. I answered your other post chin up you can do it :)Marie My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 98 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,481 Amount Saved: $392 Life Gained: Days: 13 Hrs: 0 Mins: 37 Seconds: 24

I hear you, Windy! It's like an emptiness in your belly---something is missing. Find activities to distract you..walking, posting, a cup of tea, flossing or brushing your teeth (your dentist told me to add that one), completing a chore, writing a long overdue letter or phone call..... You're looking good--keep up the good fight!

NRT's help to 'ease' the physical withdrawal symptoms. NRT's do not take away the mental cravings. Each time you lower/change the dose of nicotine you are ingesting into your body, expect approx 3 days of adjustment when it comes to your physical withdrawal symptoms. (rule of thumb) The mental cravings take time and coping skills to get past. They get easier with time. Everyone's quit is different, but just to give you an example: My physical withdrawal symptoms (the worst of them) didn't take more than 3 days to get over. My mental cravings lasted 3 weeks. At 4 months, I still cough up mucus, I am working on losing the 20/30 pds I gained when I first quit. Other than that I am healthy, happy camper now. Be patient and hang in there. Just keep putting one foot in front of the other and be proactive by learning all you can and apply it to your new life. I am not using the patch, but I will share what has helped me soooo much. Every time I have a "craving", I brush my teeth; it seems to make it pass. I heard that statistically a craving will only last about 60 seconds really if you can change your focus to something else. Knowing this has really helped the mental battle that is going on in my head. Good luck. It gets more livable everyday!!! windy, The patch helps take the edge off the craving. You may want to also have coping mechanisms around to assist you as well. Take it day by day :) Keep Strong, Josie _____________________ The SSC Support Team.
