thanks silly, I am going to try the 2 a day. And Kiwi, I have thought about my life, and quitting smoking etc. My children are all grown, (my youngest a high school senior this year), I am separated from my hubby, (but still good friends). I have been meaning to go online and read about the "empty nest syndrom". So, maybe our depression is unrelated to quitting smoking; but it does not help having this monkey on our backs....here's to the very first day we have without thinking of flipping smoking one time! I can't wait. Hope you feel better also..yipee-smoke free! Hi Windy, Yes, I was very attached to the nrt. Let me see, I started this quit with nic gum (plus I was already taking wellbutrin (zyban)).Then i switched to the patches and did them for at least 3 months. Then I relapsed for a week or two, twice. Then I got some lozenges. I started out with 7 day. After months, I got down to 4 a day. Now, it has been over a year on NRT...nicotine addict. But, thank goodness, I am not smoking. Oh, I will make it through. Finally, I am to the place mentally where smoking is not an option. It has taken me a long time to get there. Cravings have been bad today; going to bed early...thanks all. thanks penquin, I am working on having a more positive attitude. Even though I am down right now, I am still soooo thankful that I am not smoking. This is probably something that I need to go through so i will know how to face it in the future, smoke free. Sometimes life just gets hard for me, mentally. I know it is that way for most people. This has just been an exceptionally sad week. I am going to go ride my bike for a while, come home and make some nice chicken and taziki with flatbread and feta cheese. Wish that I could have YOU ALL over for a relaxing dinner. Thanks again, everyone for your encouragement. I will talk to my dr. soon. and let you know what she says. HI guys, In answer to your question freemom, yes, I am still on Wellbutrin SR. I have been taking it for depression for over two years now. It is the same medication as zyban, which is supposed to be a stop smoking aid. And, I was prescribed 2 a day, but I only take one a day. I figured that some of my depression was related to smoking. Smoking can factor into depression. So, when i quit smoking, I thought that I would feel better. I have not experienced the "better" yet. I still think about smoking every flipping day, every flipping morning when I wake up. I hate it! And thanks for your concern everyone. I will try and talk to my dr. as my prescription is almost ready for a refill. Maybe I will take two a day for a while and see how I feel. Here's to a better tomorrow. But, hey, YIPEE---still smoke free. Hi all, I have been "naked" (no NRT) for over a week now. I am having a pretty severe bout of depression. I was already on wellbutrin when I decided to quit smoking this last time. I am so restless, yet it seems that I can't get anything done; except sit and read on scc. I am just sad and restless. I cry everyday. I have to "make" myself take care of responsibilities on my 2 days off. I am so thankful to be smoke free, but the majority of the time, I feel awful??? I've almost forgotten what a "good mood" feels like; I seem to either be sad, or in neutral. There has not been one day in my over 130 days that I have not thought about smoking at least 10 times. It is always with me. I am so tired of this. Sorry to whine, but I am being honest. Hi Misty, Wow, I have not heard of anyone being on the patch for 3 years. The cases I know of where NRT is abused,it is usually the gum or the lozenges. A friend of mine at work is getting off of the lozenges this week. She went to the dr.to seek help. Because of a thyroid removal, she is on medication and the lozenges are elevating her blood pressure and heartbeat. The Dr. told her that she had to quit the NRT. I have not seen her yet, but I plan on encouraging her when I do. Another co worker has been on the lozenges for 2 years and 5 months! I told her that I am off of the lozenges and her reply was, "I'm not ready yet". The NRT is also addictive because of the nicotine content. We all know that it is not as harmful as inhaling the poisonous gases from a cig, but addictive, nonetheless. Like I said, I believe that we all have to find our own way out of this addiction. Good day to everyone..yipee--smoke-free!! thanks kiwi, Over 2 years for you! How wonderful to hear that you do not think about smoking any more...that is encouraging. And Freedom, everyone's quit is different..hopefully you will be free by 140 days; but we have to be prepared for anything in our quit journeys. I try to be honest and handle life as it comes..smoke free. I am feeling a little better today..or should I say; more neutral than sad. One foot in front of the other; we can do this. opps, sorry drgnlady; I typed darklady! Have you set a quit date? Have you done the online program here on scc? You have to get yourself ready mentally to face this jouney of becoming free from nicotine. Somedays it was all that I could do to get out of bed.,,other days I felt so good about myself that I was not letting this addiction rule my life. I went through the depression, the crying, the craving..it's alllll there for every one of us in this process...BUT, don't let that scare you. It can be done. You are stronger than those little death sticks...weeds rolled in paper is all they are. You need to get mad and DECIDE to take back control of your life from this poisonous substance, (no matter how you feel in the process). You can do it. HI McGlaughin, I really do not focus on smoking and what I lost. I used to do that. I would See people smoking and think "why can;'t I "enjoy" a cigarette?". Now, I see people smoking and think, "that poor bloke is going to have to face his addiction someday. Hope he does not killl himself first". It is really a subconcious thing now. I wake up in the morning, have some coffe, and BAM, thoughts of smoking come into my mind. I push them out, get busy with something else, have something to eat; BAM, smoking enters my mind again. I guess I still have those activities that TRIGGER my smoking urges. That is what I want to be free from...the constant, everyday, BAM, urge to smoke. Silly me, I have only been taking 2 a day for about 5 days now. I am not as depressed as I was last week; that is for sure. I am going to talk with my dr. about this medication. I was using lexapro, then I was taking one a day of each, lexapro, and wellbutrin sr. I think that I do need to work on this now that I am nicotine free. Add it to the fricking list. Darklady, You can do it. Once you go one time during your pms week without smoking, it will build confidence that you can do it next time. Get your meter going!
