Shannon: I have often joked that quitting smoking is a lot like schizophrenia...the good vs the bad/the quit vs the nicodemon...
I have been in law enforcement for about 20 years. Granted I have not been on the road for quite a few years, but I still employ the view of myself as two distinct persons. As soon as the badge goes on, I am in work mode. As soon as I take it off, I am wife, mother, friend...anything but a cop. In order to succeed, you MUST develop that concept---otherwise the stress will eat you alive. After leaving the road, I worked child sexual and severe physical abuse for 10 years. I asked for a transfer when I began being haunted by cases in my sleep and home life. Establish a healthy balance. Good luck and don't smoke---the answers are not in smoking!
