hi,i take a nap everyday i know im kinda old for that,but i got house full of kids and stay up late drading the next day..so i crash out like 3,get up when they get up(layed off steel worker),and than i crash out for a nap a few times out of the week during the afternoon,or evening.sometimes i wake up all freaked out toits just part of the game that anxiety is.i tell you what though if i dont get enough sleep,im sicker than heck,like i feel sick,and anxiety is terrible..one thing i hate is when im starting to fall asleep and its like someone zapped me,or my heart stopped..you awake for a second,and than fall back asleep but worried in the back of your mind..anybody have that..hang in there people..

I had the exact same problem for the last three weeks! I have never had a problem getting to sleep but one night about three weeks ago I woke up in a massive panic attack - sweating, heart racing, jittery, shaking, you name it. I've had panic attacks for at least 12 years but that was the first time I've ever woken up with one. Ever since then I would wake up several times during the night and toss and turn trying desperately to get back to sleep, I also started waking up a couple hours before the alarm went off and would lay their feeling more and more anxious as the clock ticked on because I knew I had to get back to sleep or I would be tired and not feeling good all day. The harder I tried, the longer I stayed awake. I have been able to get over this the last four days though. The only thing I can tell you is to not avoid the situation. Your body needs sleep. Remind yourself that it is ok if you can't get to sleep right away and allow yourself to just lay there wide awake. Sleep will come. But, if you allow yourself to give it some time and try not to force it, I found that you will get to sleep and it will get easier each time. I know it seems easier said than done, but keep trying. One thing that did help me get to sleep a couple of times was chamomile tea.
Good luck and don't give up! Your body will get you to sleep in it's own time. And remember, it's ok to lie there feeling wide awake even though your mind is telling you it isn't. Your body knows how much sleep it needs and when. Don't worry - it will come!
