I have some happy songs (as I like to call them).
 
1). "Get What You Give" by The New Radicals; I just love the beat and how carefree he sounds. And it reminds me of one of my best friends that I ALWAYS have a good time with.
 
2). "Happy" by Natasha Bedingfield - it's just a good song with a good positive message
 
3). "At Last" by Etta James - it's my favorite song in the world, hands down.
 
4). "Paul Revere" by Beastie Boys - LOVE LOVE it; ALWAYS puts me in a good mood

Avoid Irish pipe music, it is beautiful but very depressing. There are a lot of CDs with bird sound or water falls mixed with quiet music that can be relaxing. Things that drone on can be very annoying. What ever you choose you should be able to hear it without listening, and it is preferable if it doesn't have words that can get stuck in your mind and rattle around there. Also listening with head phones is better because it blocks out background noise.

I'd love to hear what other songs people find uplifting and helpful.  I'm fully aware of the effect music has on my mood - but I tend to be drawn to dark depressing stuff.  The best I do right now is to avoid that type of music (and movies and books) but I'd like to try intentionally listening to helpful stuff.

The right music can work almost as well as having my therapist talk me down. I always play music in the car. (never the radio). Play music real low at night too sometimes.

Hi Hopeful,  its a great song play it myself just seems to brighten your mood.  The other song which helped me a while back was Let it Shine by Take That, some of the lyrics I found very appropriate..

I was feeling tired, somewhat anxious, and down on my 45 minute drive home last week. I put on a the Black Eyed Peas Song "I Got A Feeling that Tonight's Gonna Be a Good Night" and started singing to it. It really uplifted my mood. It put me in such a good mood that  I even went to Walgreens and did a little shopping before I went home!
 
It is amazing how just by reading a uplifting book or putting on a uplifting song can make you feel better  :)

Music therapy :

 

We are all exposed to music on a daily basis. Whether we listen to music on the radio while driving in our car, through earphones on our personal music device (ipod…etc), in a store or at the doctors office, we all listen to music at one point or another. Have you ever wondered if music is beneficial? Does it have a therapeutic effect on us? The article at the link below explains how music affects us and why music therapy promotes health.
