After the Panic Attack

Dear Becky, I hope your neck is better, I am concerned about that, you may have strained a few muscles, I did that when I lifted weights one time, does running a hot shower on it help? I know what that funny feeling you describe is like all too well. I feel a little better, it was a rough one today, I am going to make an eye doctor appt I think these headaches dizziness and blurry vision may be caused by this {I hope} I know I have to wear reading glasses everytime I read and I had to get stronger ones, I fear a brain tumor because that was my MOms first symptom, loss of vision, so to see an eye Doctor might help ease my fears. How is work going? I hope its good. I read your reply to Allison about Xanax, that was excellant the way you described it, I took that at the beginning, it was alright, but then I went on Klonopin, I always though Xanax was good for a pending panic attack and Klonopin is good for all day anxiety, they are both good for panic through, my husband takes them on occasion. Please let me know how you are doing and thank you so much for your concern, I am hoping for a better day tomm. God bless and take care, Debbie.

Hi Alison, Xanax has been a lifesaver for me the last few years, there are many times I may have went to the hospital because I couldn't calm myself down. I can totally function on xanax, I can work, drive, do what ever. It takes about 15-20 minutes, unless I am panicking and put it under my tongue or chew it up. It just slowly starts to take the edge off, it is calming, my muscles loosen up and it takes the tension away, I am a lot more mellowed out. It just makes me feel relaxed. I usually only take .25 mgs .5 at the most if I am really tense. I try to keep it 1 mgs a day or less, I have ready many posts were some people take 4-6 mgs a day, for me I would probably want to sleep if I did that. One thing I like about Xanax is that you can take about any other med with it, the only thing I know that you can have on xanax is grapefruit juice. I know xanax can be addictive, but for me I feel like the stress is more harmful than xanax. I have taken them for about 6 years and my doctor hasn't said anything yet. Xanax is great for anxiety, it is fast acting and when I'm really anxious or having a panic attack, it has helped me so much. I hope this helps, did your doctor give you a perscription for xanax? If you have a lot of anxiety it really does help. I hope this helps. Becky

Hello Becky, I am always interested in how xanax makes you feel. I have yet to take one because I am disturbed by the possible side effects ranging from lightheadeness to hallucinations. Can you tell me EXACTLY how you feel step by step. Like how long does it take for it to take effect, how do you feel, for how long, can you think straight, etc.? Thanks, I really appreciate your help. Take care :)

Hi Debbie, I hope you are feeling better. Panic attacks do take a lot out of you, they drain you both emotionally and physically. After I have one I am so drained. The numbness may be coming from you being so tense when you have one. Stress can do a lot to you, my head feels numb sometimes and I get the tingling and numb sensations in different parts of my body. I still have the weird feeling in my head, I've had it for a couple weeks, I think it's stress, but my anxiety tells me that it may be something else. I feel like I'm falling apart, my neck makes crunching sounds, my shoulder blade and arm hurts and this is sending my anxiety up. I have been having to pop more xanax because I feel so tense, anxious and on edge. You are not alone, this disorder affects us alll in so many different ways and we always think the worse. Let me know how you are doing. Becky

debbi, i am sorry that you arent feeling well. we are in the same boat. i feel sick everyday. the reason your lips feel like that is cause you need to take deep breaths when you start to panic.you are not getting the oxygen you need.i have the same breathing problem. i get headaches everyday. stress can make you really sick. i hope you can find a method that helps you get better. how was your sons day at school? debbi i have no friends cause of my illness.try to think positive. tomarrow will be better. hugs gina

One more thing, I'm sorry, is it normal to feel dizzy spacy and have a severe headache. I hope this is just panic-related and not a horrible illness, I have had a headache for one week. THanks,Debbie.

Does anyone else ever feel totally spent and exhausted after a 30 minute or more panic attack? Today was so bad my mouth is numb, like the side of my lips! I feel weak dizzy tired like I have a flu or something, and my face is still tingling its like the worse panic is gone but the anxiety still lingers and the weakness. My husband has asked me not to go outside and talk to the neighbors, I look so bad, white, pale, like I have cancer or MS or something {I feel like it} all the neighbors keep asking hime "whats wrong with Debbie" "Why does Debbie look so ill" and its bothering and annoying him, he feels like they are blaming him and of course its NOT his fault, he wants me to keep this quiet and I have been but its hard to hide out and not have people ask questions. I cannot believe when I look in the mirror I look like I have been in a prision or saw a ghost. Is to feel and lool like this normal?? People think I am very ill and they keep asking my husband "What does the DOctor say" I did have broncitis and a kidney infection but this panic has made me look like the walking dead! I use to be able to bounce back after an attack, now the exhaustion and weakness lasts all day, do other people feel and look like this?? or is it just me. Thanks for listening. God bless, Debbie.
