Hi Lauren My attacks lasted about 5 weeks and I also had stomach upset and had to go to the bathroom alot. I would actually have a panic attack as soon as I opened my eyes and I could not lay down....just paced and paced til I was about to drop. I was put on Prozac and Xannax which I was afraid to take also, but the Xannax works well and I WILL take it now if I need it. My son fractured his skull on the 6th week after my surgery and was in a coma so I went right back into the anxiety for another couple months as he was in the ICU for 3 weeks and in rehab for a few months. I lost alot of weight too because of the stomach trouble, it made me nausious and feel like a knot in my stomach most of the time. I felt so WEIRD all the time that I began to panic over just how I felt. I still do sometimes as the anxiety makes me feel strange in the head, almost off balance or something....or dizzy...whatever. Just try to relax and take your meds as they will help and hopefully soon it will ease up. My ears still pop all the time, as I also have TMJ and sinus both and I highly doubt I will get the surgery as long as I am a nervous wreck!@ Hope you feel better soon!

Aside from any surgery or anything, I always feel worse when I am not feeling well. If I feel nauseated or anything, I always freak myself out. Hope you are doing better now. Take care. Lauren

Hi I have had a septoplasty which was to fix my nose that I had broken when I was a kid, similar thing to what you guys are talking about. I was in a good place when I had the op I was on top of my panic disorder but was very anxious and borderline panicy when I had to stay in hospital overnight. I did have a few panic attacks after the op at the hospital mainly because I vomitted blood and that freaked me out but it was only old blood that had gotten into my stomach from the op so it was nothing major at all. I reacted badly to the drugs they gave me but I always react to meds so its probably just me. I only felt sick for maybe 12 hours or so following the op. By the time I was allowed to go home early the next morning I was feeling much better. It took me about a week to get my energy back and the doctor told me with surgery of any kind small or big it leaves you a bit tired so the best thing is too rest up. Even if your not asleep but are lying down then your body is still resting and recovering so just take things easy and I'm sure that you will be fine! Oh and the op was a good thing to get, it really cleared my sinuses and improved my breathing which in turn helped me control the panic attacks because before I couldn't breathe properly through an attack, now I can! Hope this helps :)

Hi Devon, Thanks for writing back! Yep, I had a deviated septum, and they straightened everything out, etc. I also have the popping ears problem. How long did it take you before your anxiety subsided? My nerves have been so bad I am having GI symptoms and have had a panic attack upon falling asleep. Now I am afraid to sleep or to take any Xanax! Last night I think I got two hours of sleep. I saw the Dr. today and he knows it is stress and told me it will get better with each day. It is just hard because once it gets dark and I am thinking about sleep- it all starts up again. Thaks so much for writing back- it is reassuring knowing that I am not alone. J :-)

I am so sorry. YES, thats when my panic disorder started....after a hysterectomy 5 years ago. I didnt sleep for a few days either BUT when I finally did...I did. I also was afraid of dying as I almost bled to death before surgery and felt myself slipping away and the hospital staff was freaking out. I may have to have that same nose surgery. Was your sinuses affecting your ears or did they straighten a deviated septum? My ear pops and crackles all the time when my sinuses are a mess and was told 20 years ago to have this surgery. I am afraid to though because of how I freak out after surgery. I hope the best for you! Just try to believe you will get through this because you will! It just takes time. My sis in law had the surgery you had and she did fine.

Hi Gina, Thanks for your response. :) I had a rhinoplasty and apparently I had a reaction to the anesthesia.(Vomiting, etc.) The reaction scared me so badly that I am now having full blown attacks (no sleep- the attacks been off and on all night). I did discuss the situation with my Dr. and because I am already taking Klonopin (.5 mg at bedtime for panic disorder) he told me to either take Xanax which he prescribed or to ride it out until I eventually tire out. I did try adding the Xanax but it left me drowsy but I still had residual anxiety/panic. I am petrified of going through another night on this roller coaster.

Sleepless, Welcome to The Panic Center. We thank you for sharing your story with us today. This support group is full of supportive individuals who may be able to help you answer some questions regarding panic and anxiety. It is great to hear that you are seeing a doctor. In the meantime please feel free to roam the site at your own pace. If you look to the left of the screen under "TOOLS" you will find many supportive tests. These tests are not diagnostic tools and are not a replacement or substitute for a physicians advice. The purpose of these tests is to prepare you with information that you can present to your physician. When you're finished the test, you can either print your Final Report or email it directly to your doctor. We also have developed a Panic Program. This program is 12-weeks and involves the tools mentioned above. Each session is based on the previous session, so we strongly advise that you work slowly through the program and not jump ahead. If you have any questions or concerns with our "TOOLS" you can contact our support department at support@paniccenter.net. Take care and we hope to hear from you soon. Hi, I am new to the site. I was wondering if anyone has had a panic attack after having surgery? I just had surgery 2 days ago and the panic is horrible. THis is night #2 without sleep and I am afraid I am going to pass out. I saw the Dr. today and everything is OK, so it must be panic. (Nausea, heart palps, fear of dying, etc).Any advice is helpful ,I am just scared right now. :)
