Am i Junkie?

for 19 år siden 0 370 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Dear Outlaw, You are NOT a junkie. There is a difference between being addicted and being dependent on it, you have probably built up a tolerance to it. I know there is a Xanax XR that is time-released and last longer, also I take Klonopin and that lasts a long time, I also take one 0.5 every night to sleep and relax and on occasion a 1/2 of one if my daytime anxiety is bad, you mentioned your liver, I have read Lorazapam {ativan} is the easiest on the liver, even more so than Xanax or Klonopin! I read a wonderful book by Douglas Bloch "When going through hell does not stop" its a great book by a man with anxiety and depression, he said something I loved "Don't give up five minutes before the miracle" I hope you can get it at the library its fantastic. You are not a junkie please do not think that, like me and many others on this site you have a anxiety disorder and take medicine to control it. I am praying for you. God bless, Debbie.

outlaw, You are not a junkie. You are a great person!!! I believe that you just haven't found that med that works perfectly for you. Much of this is very much trial and error. Physicians try one type of med hoping for positive results. If that fails then they move on to the next. outlaw, you and your physician will find that one drug that will be perfect for you. Not everyone is built the same with the same needs. Hang tight and you will see. Take Care, Melanie _________________________ The Panic Center Support Team

I know ive been masking my life the last 5 years with xanax. The most i take at one time is 1mg.I take it like this 1mg when i get up,img 4 hours after that..Than 1mg before i go to bed..I remeber when the first put me on it was like a miracle pill it got me right back to work, life was pretty normal..Now ive been on this dose a ggod 3 years, and xanax for 5 years..The drs have always put me on this and that has been about 10-15 drs at least i would say..They always wanted me to try ssri meds but everytime i did,the side effects were extra nervouseness..felt like i was being brain washed..another one i felt hungover all the time..I want to get better, and this is a breaking ping in my life..I know people take xanax 4 hour intravals..That is common, you guys seem like you dont need a med like that..I remeber what life was like before that,i was housebound my first 10 days of anxiety..the xanax had me running around and working..What should i do now,im a pill addict by now..more advice please??? outlaw p.s im in the us the midwest

Oh...sorry i got distracted. I know what my point was that I wanted to tell you. Outlaw, I as very dependent on my Xanax until I really started to take my Lexapro. I know you have a fear of it, but let me tell you, I would probably be a Xanax junkie if it were not for the Lexapro. I can go days now without any Xanax because the Lexapro is working. I do know this: LEXAPRO is the medication, Xanax is just a quick fix. Xanax is not a medication that you stay on to help you out, it is a coping for the moment pill. It can NOT help to cure you. I have learned that through both doctors I am seeing. They always remind me that my LEXAPRO is MY Medication. That without taking it, I will not get well. I have not had any real problems at all with it. As soon as the Lexapro kicked in, I was 90% better. It has been weeks since I have even had a panic attack. Sure, I do feel anxious time to time but honestly, most days I do not even notice it. Outlaw, my heart is sad for you because I know you could truly benefit from the right meds. Be brave and talk it out with your doctor again. :)

Outlaw, my friend.... You know I take Xanax daily. (almost all days) Do you take it when you just need it...or do you take it anyway? I do NOT think you are a junkie, however can you NOT take it and just do so when you feel very anxious or panic? See, I have noticed it does not always help me unless I am in a panic mode. Can you try to skip it unless you are having a panic attack? I think the less you take, the better.

Frankly, I'd be concerned about the doctor who put you on a "maintenance med" regimen of Xanax. It's a med that can work well for some folks when taken on an as-needed basis (I've been on it this way for 10 years) but it's a very bad idea to be on it continually as a maintenance medication for the very reason you found - a tolerance buildup. Since my PA/PD revolves around driving, I need to take 0.25mg (even after 10 years, it still works effectively at this level) to make the 6 mile commute to work. Longer drives require up to 1.5mg per four or five hours of trip time. I live by the simple rule that if I do not need to take it, I do not. It's addicitive. Your body can build up a tolerance to it. If that means I stay home one or two days a week (saturday and sunday), or risk having a PA/PD while driving around the block (a mile or two at most!), then so be it. It's my opinion, based on what I know about Xanax from reading, observation, and discussion, that a healthcare provider who dictates Xanax as a maintenance medication is not looking out for your long-term best interests and may not fully understand what havoc this benzo is capable of wreaking. Xanax is one of the most powerful benzos available. Think of it as a gun. When handled safely and with understanding, it can save your life. When handled carelessly or with less than a full understanding of what it can do, it's exceptionally dangerous. Just my opinion, but were I in your shoes, I'd find another doctor. Be well~
