hi everyone! this is my first time to post here though i joined this a couple of weeks ago. i have MVP w/c was diagnosed last january thru heart auscultation and then confirmed by a 2decho. i've had numerous symptoms such as chest pain, dizziness, lightheadedness, shortness of breath, spacey feeling, insomnia, anxiety..name it i had it! sometimes a symptom will occur with another sometimes they come independently. i have been to 4 cardiologists until i was satisfied with the diagnosis. i can relate with your symptoms though sometimes i still feel scary..im taking Inderal as beta-blocker and xanor for my anxiety (w/c really helps me a lot). i've also been to an orthopedic for my costochondritis (w/c sometimes the reason for my chest pain) and been to gastro too for my bloating problems. MVP is very complex though it is benign. i have mild regurgitation but im doing fine and there's no need for surgery. how about you? how do you cope with this MVP thing? i became agoraphobic since i learned i have MVP..i used to love malls but now i'd rather choose to stay home...hmmmm...hope we can share infos. if u have questions feel free to ask. take care guys and God bless us always. ;p

I thought I had to throw this out there. I have been dealing with anxiety panic for almost 5 years. I have two sisters who have dealt with it in the past. None of us has MVP. However, I do have a sister with MVP. She does not have anxiety or panic, other than what is experienced as normal amounts (ie. she experiences them as a normal reaction to dangerous situations). So having palpitations and racing heart beat etc. doesn't necessarily mean you have MVP. The two are not necessarily related. Also, my sister who has MVP is in great health and exercises on a regular basis. Her heart is healthy, and MVP is not a health risk, except if you go to the dentist you have to make them aware. Hope this is informative and/or helpful to some of you.

Hey all! Just found out 2 months ago i have MVP too. it explains alot of what i feel alot of the time. Its a known fact that people with MVP are not "wired" properly, causing panic/anxiety. Its amazing that some of us on this site have it and are suffering. im curious to know how many of us panic sufferers have MVP.

Jackie, yes. It is a little valve that does not close properly and backflows. It is very common and your Echo should show if you have it.

Dear Grace- I found your posting very helpful!! How did your Dr. diagnose this? I hand an EKG which was fine- I'm going for chest X-rays and an Echo next week- He tells me it is all anxiety but just to be sure- he wants to run these tests to give me peace of mind. Any advice would be helpful!! P.S. My Dr. also told me he has had 3 women in his office in the last week with the same symptoms- he mentioned mvp- which he said is a small leak in your valves of your heart? Let me know if this is accurate!! Thanks- Jackie

When i was first diagnosed with anxiety in 2000,a Dr was listening to my heart and said you hear that.I freaked like ohh no,they said mvp,and never worry abouut it unless i got dental work and stuff like that.Well everytime i went to another dr,im skinny so they say my heart is crisp, easy to hear, and they heard no mvp.Well when i had all the tests run in Januray before i could even ask the cardiolgist for the results, she was reading them off,she said no mvp.I ve read the symptoms before and alot of people have it live there whole life without knowing it. About heartburn,it makes me real tired and headache feeling when i get a bad flareup i have Gerd it sucks.. Well look up the info dont scare yourselves lol.. Your friend, outlaw

Dear Grace, Your post was VERY interesting! That would explain alot of what is happening to people. Heart problems do run in my family, both sets of grandparents died from it and my father who is only 63 had congestive heart failure and has a "fialbrator" inserted, its like a pace-maker I know I did not spell it right. Other than the shortness of breath I suffer those symptoms, I get chest pain when I walk alot or over-smoke. I was thinking of you last night and I can really relate now, I had the worst heartburn, I vomited three times and it felt like "fire" coming up each time, I have had minor heartburn but never like that! I could not talk this morning and my throat was so sore, I even had a headache and felt weak, I know now what you go through you poor thing that acid fire like liquid it horrific! I hope you are feeling better I have been praying for you and I was so happy when you wrote it can be treated. Take care, rest up. Deb.

This is what I have wrong with my heart. It is VERY common, not deadly, just annoying. Many many people have it and do not know it! Here is a list of the symtoms the hospital gave me the other night: *Chest pain €¢Fatigue €¢Palpitations, extra heart beat €¢Lightheadedness, dizziness €¢Shortness of breath €¢Anxiety and/or panic attacks €¢Headaches €¢Low exercise tolerance €¢Mood swings Of course, a doctor has to diagnose it but for anyone who think they may have this and the symptoms fit, it is worth bringing up to your doctor at your next appointment. They also say it is hereditary (can be) and my sister and my mother both also have it.
