I've quit smoking many times, once for three years then I started again...I awakened my addiction with literally one puff!  I smoked for 15 years after that quit, then I found the SSC.

This is my last quit and it's been over nine years now, finally a success.  I learned all I could about how addictions work and know that I can never smoke again if I want to remain quit.

Accepting and loving ourselves as an addict in recovery is key.

Take care,
Jennifer  :)

Well..... I've had 4 Serious attempts before this one. 2 lasted about 2 weeks and 2 lasted over a year before I relapsed and resumed my prior level of smoking.
What I think is important is that it took me those relapse episodes to learn that I was an addict and an addiction has to be handled completely different than just a nasty "habit".
Fortunately you do not have to go through relapse and waste years of your life smoking. You can learn by others mistakes because they are all laid out for you here and on countless other sites on the web.The key to success is KNOWLEDGE!! If you know what you are up against you can be smarter than your addiction and you will win !!!

Newbies,

Many quitters whom are contemplating quitting often are discouraged by the following thought: “I tried to quit before and failed.”

Well, did you learn how to smoke in one day? How long did it take you become addicted? You surely didn’t become a full time smoker in a few hours. Just like you learned how to smoke, you need to learn how to become a non-smoker.

Research scientists have found that most people try to quit seven times before they succeed.

Members,

Tell us how many attempts you made before being successful? Let our newbies know they are not alone!
