Mild or low tar cigarettes are not safer

Before I started smoking a coworker smoked Salem - I bummed one and almost gagged - the menthol was very strong and harsh to me - but she appeared to take a drag on the cigarettes and blow out and way every care in the world. - I would bum every now and again and started buying my own - for whatever reason (I don't remember) but I started buying winston after some years I would buy 100's and Lights - They seemed milder for me and I bought into the info or myth that they were not as bad - Anyway, for many years I'd smoked lights and never wanted any other brand.  Every time I quit - I always went back to the same brand.
My Mileage:

My Quit Date: 4/10/2010
Smoke-Free Days: 41
Cigarettes Not Smoked: 615
Amount Saved: $153.75
Life Gained:
Days: 5 Hrs: 21 Mins: 4 Seconds: 12

Some of that may be true for some or most smokers. However I could only smoke ultra light cigarettes when I smoked. Regular cigarettes made me cough and gag and throw up, so I don't believe that I inhaled ultra light cigarettes more deeply. If I had, I wouldn't have been able to smoke at all.
My Mileage:

My Quit Date: 5/1/2009
Smoke-Free Days: 384
Cigarettes Not Smoked: 10,752
Amount Saved: $4,569.60
Life Gained:
Days: 43 Hrs: 5 Mins: 56 Seconds: 9

Members,

In recent months, there has been a push to remove the labeling on cigarettes. Why? Because mild, extra mild, low tar and other cigarettes are not less harmful to your health.

The move comes after multiple surveys done by Health Canada and other have shown that the general smoking population does in fact believe this to be the case.

Here are a few facts to help dispel this myth:

* Research has shown that mild, light or low tar cigarettes are just as harmful as regular cigarettes as smokers change their smoking habits. Ex: They smoke more cigarettes, inhale deeply, take more puffs, cut filters... all to satisfy their nicotine addiction they've built up.

* The ingredient list in mild, light and low tar are almost identical.

* The amount of tar, carbon monoxide or nicotine between regular, light and other cigarettes.

The only way to to reduce the harmful effects of tobacco is to cut down or better yet quit!
