Thanks to all of you for your responses. Hey Boots, I read your posting. I could really relate to it. Today was quite a bit easier for me. I haven't cried so far. My husband helps me out a lot when I get scared and start to panic. I've had a couple of really bad bouts of depression over the last ten years and I'm very paranoid about slipping back into depression. I was reading a few postings before checking my replies and although I really sympathize with all the people having a hard time, I also find it kind of comforting to know I'm not the only one. It's also great to hear from everyone that it doesn't last too long and that it's normal. I'm taking it really easy today and being very patient and gentle with myself. Thanks again everyone. Hey Trooper I felt like you a couple of days ago and really had a tough time ..Treat urself to something nice. get back to basics sometimes we need to be reminded why we quit. Think of something that you could do for yourself that would make you smile .. a good book or magazine .. a nice hot relaxing bath is my fav with relaxation music and candles. I'm thinking I might book a really good relaxing massage for my 100 . hmmm now I'm smiling thinking of that! Trooper, Hang in there! Let's face it, withdrawals are no fun! In addition to withdrawing to the toxic chemicals smoking introduced, there are also many changes going on in your body. When you smoked, nicotine triggered the release of neurotransmitters in your brain. These neurotransmitters are responsible for good mood. When you quit or come off the patch for instance, it isn't uncommon for your mood to take a nose dive. This case of the blues is temporary and until it passes, there are a few things you can do: * Exercise as it releases endorphins and these are also conducive to good mood. * Rewarding yourself with something pleasurable. This triggers the same release of neurotransmitters we mentionned. * Get outside and get adequate rest as these also affect your mood. I started crying this morning and haven't been able to stop. Don't really know why I'm crying. I just feel like a raw nerve, every thought just bringing on the tears. I'm afraid. I want to stop crying. I don't want to start smoking again. I've been off the patch for three weeks now. Had a relapse after the first week but now it's been 14 days without any nicotine. I had been hoping it would get easier and today just seems unbelievably hard. I just want to crawl in a hole and hide. I just want this crying to stop.
