Thank you Gina and Christina for your letters, they helped. My son is 13 and is going through withdrawal and I am trying to help him. The good news is he has not had any chest pains or problems since I discontinued it 6 days ago. I pray that continues. I am trying to conceal my anxiety and panic from him. I will let you know when the results come back. Thanks you again for your prayers and advice. Thank you so much. Debbie.

Debbi, Well I am a doctor, but I can't give you medical advice but I can try to explain somethings to help you better understand. First In new york we give this type of medication to treat ADHD. We rarely give this medication to patients under the age of 6. The most common side effect to this medication is hypertension(high blood pressure) and cardiovascular disorders. It is started at a low dose of about 10mg and go up about 5 mgs a week to am max of 30mg. He should be tappered of, but since he is having some problems from this he was removed completly. This drug is VERY addicitive. He is having withdrawals. It is common to how he is acting. Just be support for him and reasure him that everything will be okay and that you are there for him. Ritalin is usually the drug of choice that we use for chilren. It has less effects and is not habbit forming. The cardiologist will probably do an echo and ekg and maybe even a holter moniter to see what is going on. He will guide you down the best path for you and your son. Perhaps it is nothing. Only he will be able to answer all of your questions. As for you. Well as hard as it may sound try to focus on the positive things. In everything negative there is always something positive. I suffer from panic like most of us here. TRy slow deep breaths and nice bath or a walk. close your eyes and put yourself some place peaceful. stay there for a while and release all the tension. sometimes it's good to let it all out. that's what we are all here for......Christina

We just returned from the Doctor's office and my anxiety and panic are raging! My little boy has been on Adderall XR for about 4 years and started to experience chest pain and heart palps, it helped him focus and decreased his strong appetite, but depressed him and make him sluggish. Now the DOctor wants him to see a specialist Cardiologist to see if any damage has incured to his heart! I am trying to stay calm but it is SO hard. Are there any parents out there who's children have been on this med? The Candian FDA has pulled it and the United States is considering it because of 20 deaths in children due to strokes and heart attacks. My panic is extreme and I am so worried, my son is going through withdrawal and is very hyper and aggressive. Has anyone or their children ever withdrew from this succesfully?? I am trying so hard to stay calm and focused, but I feel like the panic is rising quickly. Any replies, information or help would be appreciated. Thanks, Debbie
