just here to offer an "i second that!" to bygrace's post- i, too, have
been told the same by my doctors, and since have been taking
medicine twice daily for GERD- and it has since stopped most of my
chest pain (except during a bad attack, of course). hard to believe that
what you're feeling isn't your heart, and i didn't believe it until i missed
a day of my GERD medicine and the symptoms returned! definately
helps when you know your heart isn't going to stop beating or explode.
:o)
I am not sure. But I wanted to tell you what I learned at the doctor today.
After neg. cardiologist test (and lots of them) they sent me to a GI (gut doctor). I told her of the chest pain, the pain in the shoulder and all the other symptoms. Both doctors told me the same thing. MANY MANY people that have those same complaints feel that there is a heart problem when indeed it is an upper gi issue. They told me that your esophugus (I know I spelled that wrong) actually is behind your heart and chest bone area. It is in the very back. When you have acid refulx (and the % of people they told me that does was amazing) have very deep chest pain and it can be felt in any of the chest area. It is always confused with heart related pain. It is very common to have the same symptoms. I had the upper GI and indeed it showed bad Refulx/Gerd and gallbladder issues. THUS, they said, is the reason of the ill feelings, the sweating the stomach sickness and the chest related pain.
Now, yes I do have panic attacks but the panic causes an increase in stomach acid and this in result causes the GERD to act worse and there you have the chest pain.
I don't know if it brings any peace to any of you but it may be worth checking out. I know she told me that you have spasms in your GI tract and that those cause the pain in the shoulder/blade and over your left side of your chest and middle chest pain. She gave me some meds for that.
Just an FYI.... smile and hugs.
