I didn't go cold turkey. I used chantix.. I have tried cold turkey in the past..
Understanding the Quit... understanding triggers ... being prepared. having cold water or a water bottle with me. when i wanted to smoke. I took a swig of water. I literally sloshed a few days when I walked..lol.. I know I have good kidneys.. and all the water does help to flush out those toxins. The last time I tried without help... my husband offered to guy buy a pack.. This time i have only had a couple crabby days..... Remember to come here and Yell for help, and post ... wait for at least 3 to 5 answers ... someone will be along shortly to help you out..

If I feel like I am going to have a cigarette then I will go and get nicotine gum. Day 1 was ok, thought it would be tougher. I do expect it to get tougher.

I see where you wrote that you didn't want to use a nicotine replacement. I had been a smoker for a long, long time and never thought I would be able to quit. I heard about Chantix, asked my doctor about it and she gave me a prescription. I didn't do the full course due to side effects, which I discussed with my doctor, but I don't think I would have made it as far as I have without it and, of course, determination to quit. Just something to think about if the cravings become too much to bear. Going cold turkey is kind of rough, even with using the tools and resources of SSC.

It's 8pm and i really am doing fine. The toughest part is the commute to work and back. A little spaciness, but otherwise I am pretty ok. Of course, I've thought about the evil stick, but am doing ok. I am sure it has to get harder for me. So, far so good.

Tkusant, Welcome! That spacey feeling is perfectly normal. You are getting the drugs out of your body! Chewing on a straw helped me alot.
Go through the program if you can, alot of useful help in there!
Congrats on quitting! you will NOT regret that decision! :)

I did use nicorette gum on my last quit attempt and yes, it does help with the cravings. They have a program to go through when using the gum, too. I think that it could have helped me successfully quit, but I didn't give it a chance!
I used Chantix to quit this time and it has done it's job and I believe that I have successfully quit this time!!! I too, had my doubts if anything could help me quit because of the horrible cravings I would get!!! The Chantix really did it's job and minimized my cravings and I was able to quit for the last time!!!
So, I believe that any NRT choice you make will help, but in reality, it IS up to you and you Positive Mental Attitude!!!
You really, really, REALLY HAVE TO WANT TO QUIT!
Good luck, we'll be keeping an eye on you!!!
Jim
