Tkusant, I had smoked two packs a day for a long time...Probably the last ten years of my 35 year addiction. I also quit cold turkey. I ate a lot of peanuts. It's kind of funny though, I had no idea how many ways the different peanut companies prepared them. Back to you..You already know that we call this hell week, and you'll discover that this is going to be the hardest part. It will get easier, and easier. Just remember, as you've been doing, post before you smoke. We are all with you. bj2705 is right tkusant, the first week is the hardest. I pretty much slept through the first 3 days and without an NRT (I use the inhaler) I wouldn't have made it this far. Not sure where you live.. Everything here has gone Smoke Free. We stopped at a little "bar" yesterday for lunch ... I haven't been in this particulat place for a couple years... It was kind of strange to walk in and Not see a BLUE haze over everything. You can do this... the first week is the Very hardest.. Once you relaize what your triggers are, when they occur.. You learn to say NO and to do something else.. The NO's get easier.. the craves get weaker... Oh they happen... I call them "POP UPS" I got them just before 30 and before 50 day milestones... but they r that kind of like a pop up on your computer screen... you have to turn on the pop up blocker... they are annoying.. but can be swatted down. I NEVER thought... this would happen.. I walked passed a lady who was smoking outside a doorway.. she must have exhaled just as I passed.. I almost gagged.. and I hurried in the store to get away from the smell.... Hang tight.. we are here... and you are doing great..... Red twizzlers, I don't like liquorice. Great Idea thanks so much. Will pick them up after work. I can do this. I keep on telling myself that. Only problem is I will have to stay away from friends for a while. They do smoke, but I have to quit drinking to do this too. If I had a beer or a nice rum and coke with dinner it would be over. I am excited though. I will be on here alot. HI Tk I felt really spacey for a couple days.. COLD really cold water, or a popsicle, frozen fruit bar.. I found something really cold helped. Water will help you get rid of the toxins faster. A cinnaon stick.. I had some licorice (red) sticks... straws. Also "Allen Carr's Easy Way to Quit Smoking" is a good book, you can also download and read it on the computer for Free.. Just take it a little at a time... The first week is called Hell week. Use the "My program" here.. write down positives, and reasons you are quitting... put the list where you had your smokes.. so when you get an urge.. pick up your list and read it.. The first day.. little rwards,, mints, a bite if chocolate.. .. something at the end of the day... cooking something special you like, getting someone else to do the dishes, a bubble bath... something just for you.. as a Reward for NOT smoking today... and keep thinking about that reward. Jim is right - read & post here as much as possible! At the beginning, smoking thoughts can be obsessive at times. Remember that thoughts are just thoughts - they don't control you. Also, when you're a smoker, you have more nicotine cravings than a non-smoker. As a smoker the withdrawal & subsequent cravings for another smoke start within minutes of finishing a cigarette. Should I try the gum, Jim? Does it help. I'm not worried to much about withdrawal symptoms, its the cravings I worry about it. It's the hardest thing that you can do without an NRT! You really have to try hard to NOT think about it! I had to spend countless hours on the site here yapping and reading to keep my mind off those dam butts! You can do it and we're here to help!!! I guess I am doing ok. I need to keep busy. Maybe I should I bought nicorette gum. Maybe would have been easier. But I need to do this without the nicotine, so no gum. The hard part is commuting to work. I was like a hound dog this morning. I was picking out every car that had a smoker in it. Going to be tough and long, but know I can do this.
