effexor xr ................should I??????

Rebecca, Try taking your Effexor at bedtime. I'm on it, too. I take all my meds (except my arthritis med) before I go to bed. That way if any of your meds have a "groggy" effect, you're already laying down and you'll be able to sleep better. You say you're anxious, take the medicine. It can help Did you not express your thoughts of a new med when your Doc handed you the script? Did you not feel comfortable? You had to have some confidence in your Dr or you wouldn't have gone there. No medicine will help if you're reluctant to take it. That's why I suggested taking it when you lay down. It will all work out, Della from SC

I find that it lessens some of the anxiety over starting a new drug to get feedback from others on it. I should have started my effexor today but I couldn't do it. It scares me to take this stuff although I guess I'd really love it if it worked. I was told by the psychiatrist that this is a particular drug that also is supposed to help with pain issues although I am not sure how that is either. Glad this thread was started. Rebecca

Hi Everyone: What an interesting thread, I'm learning so much. Anxietyandme: I was on Effexor, for about 6 months. I thought it was the miracle drug I'd been looking for, for all these years. It got rid of all my anxiety symptoms for about three months, it was wonderful and then my world came crashing down when I started getting the attacks again. My dr. said its not a cure and it doesn't last forever. But like people here have said, drugs works differently on people. I'm on paxil, it doesn't work very well. I'd like to get off of it and have tryed weening myself off but the side effects are very bad. I heard its one of the worst drugs to get off of. Anyone here, have successfully gone off of paxil???? I'd like to know how anyone did it??? Carol

Hi There, I am taking mine in the morning. Most of what I am on makes me tired but my body is adjusting. Both my kids are in school so I am able to nap during the day for an hour. I just took a look at my meds and mine is also Effexor XR. The Dr. did mention that within the next 6 weeks I will be going up to 150mg. 75 as of next tuesday at which time my Paxil will drop to 20 or 30 from the 40 I take now. I have GAD, PTSD, PD(dx 6 yrs ago, mild), SAD (mild)....I was diagnosed with IBS when I was 20 (I'm now 34)doesn't bother me at all as I have dealt with it for so long, I suffer from chronic sinus infections, and an addiction to French Vanilla Coffee.....which would affect my weight gain if I let it. So far I would say that the BCP has helped me the most as mine seems to be at times hormone related.

Hi all, There are also many factors of my change , not just weight gain ,but I went to a woman Dr (In the same building) & she also chose effexor for me,she thinks it will help a lot with my HA,GAD,depression so i'm cutting my paxil in 1/2 today & so far so good. All we can do is try & pray it works..:) I've always been impatient ,but guess this helps me change that..) Stephanie are you taking yours at day or night,I haven't decided...I see a lot say it makes you sleepy ,but my aunts on it & she takes it in morn & does fine. Have a great day all!Chris

Good Morning Anx & Me, I am glad my Doc changed me from Effexor 75mg tab to Effexor XR 75mg capsule. I didn't have to change to a different drug. I am up to 225mg/day which, of course I take at bedtime. I'm able to sleep off most of the grogginess, and the extended release formula usually stays with me until next bedtime. I can't say for sure where my weight gain comes from. In my case there are too many variables. I've quit smoking, been out of work since Labor Day, I have Fibromyalgia, and don't walk for exercise as long as I should. If I overdo it, I pay for it for days on end. Della

Hi Della, You didn't offend.....in no way what so ever.... I was just pointing a different perspective. I gained 40 lbs with Paxil originally and only lost it when I came off....... I have gained 10 since I went back on, and it can have a negative impact on your treatment. The reason I am changing over to Effexor is because my Paxil isn't working as well the 2nd time around. But I have gained 10 lbs. I have heard great things about Effexor. My Psych. and my Family Dr. both agree that this should be a better drug for me. I think we all need to remember that one bad experience does not make it a bad drug. We are all different and will react differently to different meds. We are also all very intune to what we hear or read on these boards. The important thing here is to talk to your Dr. What works for one might not work for another and what doesn't work for one person may be the best thing for another. Just because one person or more don't like a specific drug or had a bad experience, doesn't mean it will do the same for you. I only point this out because we tend to read things like this and get anxious over the same happening to us, or refuse to try a med because of what people have said. It is good to share our experiences with meds, but on the other end we need to realise that we are all different, and will respond differently.
