I can relate...I started the Lexapro and lasted 10 days and could not stand the nausea that I had 24/7, so I am off that. I am currently taken Ativan .5mg 3 times a day but will be switching to Xanax XR, which you only need to take 1 time in the a.m. I also take Wellbutrin, I don't care for the other anti-depressants since they kill your sex drive. I think Wellbutrin actually kicks mine up!!! But relax, it won't kill you, it is just a matter finding which med or combination works for you. I have also found that when I start feeling like an attack is coming on, I either get online & read or grab a book & read. It makes me concentrate on reading and not what is happening. It won't hurt to try that.

I'm not sure about the Xanax, I've never been on it. You may want to ask your Dr. The Ativan Sublingual, is placed under my tongue and it disolves. It takes abt. 20-30 min. to start working and is a temporary fix, until my meds start to work well. Reg. Ativan or Lorazapam, that is swallowed takes abt. an hour to work. You know, if your feeling that bad your really need to go and see your Dr. ASAP. I have found that talking to my Dr. helps. You need to let him know that what your taking isn't working. Don't be scared to tell him you think your losing it. Is he your family Phys. if so, you may need to see a Psychiatrist. You need to let him know that you don't want a quick fix with meds, that you want to really treat this disorder with Counseling, CBT, whatever you and he decide is best. But at this point the goal would be to get you feeling well enough to focus on your recovery. That is the plan that my Dr.'s and I have arranged and it snapped me out of depression and gave me the will to try and help myself. You won't go crazy.....no one with Panic does. You may need to read some books on the subject. Knowledge really is power, and it can give you the confidence to start helping yourself. Feeling Good and The Feeling Good Workbook are by David Burns. Don't Panic by David Wilson and From Panic to Power from Lucinda Bassett may help you out. Remember the more you think about the anxiety and negative thoughts, the more they will likely occur. I've only been feeling better for a few weeks, so I can only suggest what has worked for me.

Is Avitan like Xanex. I take that to calm me down but that doesn't even work that well. I feel like I am going to freak out! I don't know what to do!

I was initially on Paxil 40 mg, worked last time but not as well this time, and am just starting to change over to Effexor. I also take Ativan Sublingual for immediate relief which has been a blessing for me. My symptoms tend to be worse around my cycle so I am also trying the BCP which this month has helped.

thanks for writing back. I started taking lexapro about a week ago. And i wake up from a dead sleep feeling anxious with horrible thoughts. I just want to get through this. What med do you take if you don't mind me asking? It seems like nothing helps. write back!

I felt like this in August when I relapsed. I seemed to do okay for a couple months and then again had a terrible panic attack and felt hopeless, depressed, anxious and agitated all the time starting in November. My life basically stopped because all I could think of was the anxiety. I thought I was losing control and for sure I would end up hospitalised. First go and see your Dr. and explain how you are feeling. For me....I needed meds to make me feel better enough to concentrate on working through this. I am at that point now. I can suggest meditation, which helped me to relax, deep breathing and counting your breaths and trying to do things to distract yourself when you feel anxious. Start with this program and try to read some books to lift your spirits about this being controllable. I am new to this program, but not to the idea of CBT....

Until you can get some medical help, I can say reading through this site will help you so much and see that so many others are having the same feelings or emotions. I know before I started medical treating (RX) I was just like you are saying, ready to just scream or be put away.

Have you spoken to your doctor? Have you tried any self help programs like on this site?

Hi jafloydci, Anxiety certainly can feel overwhelming at times. Please try to relax. You can get through these feelings. Try to use your coping mechanisms. Some people find great strength with simple deep breathing exercises. Others find a warm bath or shower helpful. If there is something that has worked for you in the past, you may want to try that. Is there someone you trust that you can call? Also read through the site/program if you have time. Information can be very empowering. I would also recommend that you follow up with your doctor/therapist to let them know you are struggling. They can teach/recommend specific coping mechanisms to help you get through difficult times like this.
