I know how that feels, I am(was)so emotionally attached to smoking. It solved everything...I thought. These are still the tough times..my kids are my salvation most of the time. I think of them to get myself through. Mine are supportive in a differnt way, they just tell me whatever happens happens and if I smoke they still love me. I keep telling them I need them to be a little more tough on me, but they are such wonderful kids, I know that I don't want to disappoint them. Thank you for the hugs.. I sure needed them today. It's still rough, not so much smoking, but having something to do. I need to buy some straws and stay away from the bagels - I do so well usually all day, it's the evening that is the pits. Aw Patti {{hugs}}, Now you're getting to the next phase...dealing with the emotions without smoking. I am so glad to hear that you're recognizing the trigger. Smart woman, you, and that you're looking for another way to deal with the sadness. That was one of the hardest triggers for me to find substitutes for. Many caring friends on here reminded me that it is okay to cry when I feel sad, something that the smoking me did not do. Aww - i know how you feel. Pamper yourself tofday - Light a bunch of candles and take a nice long bubble bath. Have your favorite meal for supper and maybe rent a nice action thriller movie (Those are great for us escape artists!). Well, that's how *I* would pamper - but you get the idea, yes? Take good care of yourself and just enjoy the heck out of it! Know you are doing it because you're doing something really reeally great for yourself in quitting and that you deserve it! Yesterday I did so well. Went to a family party, where I revelled in praise from my family over my quit, then went shopping for healthy food to munch on for the evening, after declining an offer from my niece to 'come in for a beer'. I couldn't do that one because I would surely want to smoke, and she thoroughly understood. Now today. Watched a tv show - one of those one hour soaps sorta thing - and it was about the daughters discovering their mother had alzheimers. So I sobbed through it - I just lost my mom in November and she had alzheimers. I have the pages my son left for me that morning - the ones with NOPE written all over them. They're helping. And I keep reading about the junkie and why I really don't want a smoke. And I really don't - I don't want the smoke or the taste or the cough or breathing etc. I just want to reach for something that will give me that same escape. Think I should go out and buy something... anything except smokes.
