I'm a runner too! :)
Sorry it took me a while to reply to this, Kristilu. But, I think you and I were going to start running in our January quitters thread. Well, I have a big lead on you. I have actually been running for years. Yes, even as a smoker! The smoking has always held me back from my full potential...
I agree with the other members that you should start off slowly. Follow the instructions from the website you found. But, also keep in mind that everyone is different. Do what makes you comfortable and go with that. If you feel sharp, stabbing pains in your chest, slow down or stop. And if it persists, definitely check with your doctor. I sometimes get pains in my side (everyone is familiar with the 'runners stitch', right?) and when that happens, I walk until it's gone. A pain in your chest may be from smoking....and that should get better as your body heals itself.
Good luck to you and keep us posted. Keep track of your walking and running progress. It'll be a great incentive to keep your quit!
