Took a jog this morning.....

Windy I bet that step/dance class was fun though. Last year when I quit I did a tae bo class and had more fun laughing at everyone being uncoordinated (mainly my mom and sister)! Sue - You go girl, we southerners don't do cold weather too well and when I stepped outside last Thurs. morning and the wind took my breath away, I did one lap and gave it up. Can't wait for warmer weather! But, I'm going to suck it up in the morning and hit the pavement... I have to walk at 530 in the morning to get any walking in my schedule, so it is really cold! I'll think about all of my non smoking walking buddies and maybe that will help me thru it! Hi Kristi - I think my exercise regime gradually grew as time went on....but I know how great it feels to be able to run and exercise without getting winded. Tonight I went to a step, dance class and I looked like a fool - If only quitting smoking could make me more coordinated!! Well Misty you did better than me. It was foggy and about 30 degrees this morning so I skipped out again. Miss OMT must have some really good lungs if she could run while she was smoking. Lord I was lucky to walk up hill without getting out of breath while smoking much less running. But I'm gonna get there. My little boy is a super fast runner, and I want to do the 5K on July 4th with him. ;p My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/21/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 1 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 25 Amount Saved: $6.88 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 3 Mins: 26 Seconds: 29

Man - every step I took this morning was accompanied with "ow, ow, ow, ow!" LOL! I'm a lil out of shape! I did yoga this morning and now I feel better. Back to walking maybe this afternoon or tomorrow at the latest. I'm a runner too! :) Sorry it took me a while to reply to this, Kristilu. But, I think you and I were going to start running in our January quitters thread. Well, I have a big lead on you. I have actually been running for years. Yes, even as a smoker! The smoking has always held me back from my full potential... I agree with the other members that you should start off slowly. Follow the instructions from the website you found. But, also keep in mind that everyone is different. Do what makes you comfortable and go with that. If you feel sharp, stabbing pains in your chest, slow down or stop. And if it persists, definitely check with your doctor. I sometimes get pains in my side (everyone is familiar with the 'runners stitch', right?) and when that happens, I walk until it's gone. A pain in your chest may be from smoking....and that should get better as your body heals itself. Good luck to you and keep us posted. Keep track of your walking and running progress. It'll be a great incentive to keep your quit! I will! I did real good the last 2 weeks, but today it was raining when I woke up, so I just slept. Back to the grind tomorrow, if it's not raining that is. It's been really cold here, but I've been walking anyway. I'm waiting on one of the elderly ladies in our neighborhood to call the police on me for looking like a suspicious individual!! With my hoodie on, a flashlight in one hand and a razor knife in the other, I bet I look pretty scary!! LOL!! But, I bet noone messes with me! ;) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/21/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 0 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 0 Amount Saved: $0.00 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 1 Mins: 39 Seconds: 8

Thanks for posting Kristilu, and the advice about goggling starting a running program. I did that and came out with lots of awesome info that I actually really needed. (as to why I hadn't done this better is beyond me-but oh well!) Thanks again for such a great reminder about what info I was missing! Sorry to see you slipped, but it's just that...a slip. Good for you for not being hard on yourself, getting back up, dusting yourself off and trying again. Trust me it is worth it and it seems like you have the determination to do it! Hope you are having a good day!
