Minnie, Welcome to The Panic Center. We thank you for sharing your story with us today. This support group is full of supportive individuals who may be able to help you answer some questions regarding panic and anxiety. If you look to the left of the screen under "TOOLS" you will find many supportive tests. These tests are not diagnostic tools and are not a replacement or substitute for a physicians advice. The purpose of these tests is to prepare you with information that you can present to your physician. When youre finished the test, you can either print your Final Report or email it directly to your doctor. We also have developed a Panic Program. This program is 12-weeks and involves the tools mentioned above. Each session is based on the previous session, so we strongly advise that you work slowly through the program and not jump ahead. If you have any questions or concerns with our "TOOLS" you can contact our support department at support@paniccenter.net. Keep Strong, Josie _______________________________ The Panic Center Support Team.

Hi, I'm new to this site and just read Katy's story on fear of shots. I'm sure glad you got the shot without fainting etc. and now you know that there is nothing to fear, you've done it and you can do it again, the more we do the things we fear the easier it gets. Us anxious people are great worriers and we imagine that the worst is going to happen. I too get all freaked out about needles and have to calm myself down. A few months ago I came really close to passing out watching my son get needles in the head so they could stitch a cut, I had to leave the room, I was so mad at myself because I wanted to be brave, maybe next time. Good work though, it will get easier.

Well, I did it. I'm really tired now, and I'm going to go sleep for a while, but I wanted to report I made it - I didn't faint, and I got pretty dizzy, but didn't really panic. It was more my usual response, from before the panic attacks. I tried to do the deep breathing, and I think that really helped. I had to lie down for a while there afterwards, and drink some water, but I was okay. The scariest part was waiting once I got there, but once we got started it was okay, because I just tried not to think about what was going on, and the nurse was great. So now I'm off to take a nap, and glad it's over. I have some other more general questions about my panic attacks, but I'm going to post about that once I've rested a while. Thanks for the advice. Katy

Thanks for the advice! My dad is taking me, so he should be there, and I'll try the deep breathing and memories. Just a couple hours to go...I think dreading it as probably as bad as whatever happens... Katy

Don't be afraid to tell the person drawing the blood you have panic attacks and are fearful of having blood drawn. They can probably offer some advice as they are well skilled at this and of course you are not alone in your fears - they see it all the time. Deep breaths may help and reassuring talk - remember these people are highly skilled and it will be over quickly. Try remembering some memory that relaxes you or visualize something. Let us know how you made out.

Hi Katy, Welcome to the site. You are not alone in your fear of having blood drawn. Try to remember your relaxation coping mechanisms such as deep breathing. You may find it helpful to bring someone you trust with you to hold your other hand and offer reassurance. Be sure to let the technologist know about your concern. They are experienced in dealing with people who have this fear. Good luck and let us know how everything goes. Casey ___________________________________ The Panic Center Support Team

I had my first panic attack about 2 months ago, and now I've been seeing a psychologist for a month but he hasn't really helped me much. I'm going to post my whole story later, because I'm wondering if I should find a different psychologist or if they're all going to say the same thing as this guy, but at the moment my most pressing concern is something else. Later today I have to go get blood drawn, just for a regular blood test or something, but I'm really really scared of shots...I was even before the panic attacks started, and I haven't had a shot since they started, so I don't know what the combination will be like. When I get a shot I get really dizzy, to the point I've come really close to fainting, and that combined with the dizziness/racing heart/fast breathing from a panic attack could be really awful. I haven't had a panic attack for a couple weeks, just been scared I was going to have another one, but I've been on winter break so that's probably part of it. I'm sure I'm going to have a panic attack on top of my usual reaction, and I don't know how to avoid it. The psychologist gave me a tape with the progressive relaxation stuff on it yesterday, but I know I won't be able to think streight enough to do any of that. I found this discussion board a couple days ago, and have been reading other people's posts, and I'm amazed at how supportive everyone is. I get the impression that everyone here is older than me, though...I'm a freshman in high school. Hopefully someone has an idea as to how I can get through this...then I'll post about my situation in general later... Katy
