prozac side effects???

Cassie, i would try not to worry about going back on the prozac, since you hasd a good experience with it the first time. me on the other hand did very well on the paxil and very bad on the prozac. i guess all the medications are some what the same but everyone responds differently. i have a close friend who also has ocd and depression. her doc recommended lexapro for her. she did great on it and has been symptom free for 1 year. i tried lexapro but i only suffer from panic attacks, although with my bad experince to the prozac ie. mania/hypomania i think i suffer from depression now because nothing is working for me. i am not on any meds now except for the xanax .25 while the prozac works out of my system. i hope to restart on my paxil. think of it this way, out of all the meds you tried prozac worked the best for you leaving you with no hives nad no heart palps. i am a doctor myself and very upset that i can't help myself. but since you did well i would tend to think you will do fine now. ssri's are a little funny. each one has a very different reaction. please let me know how things go........regards,christina

2 years ago I was diagnosed with GAD, OCD and Depression. My doctor at the time gave me Paxil 10mg to start and then after a month I went to 20mg. I started getting hives from it but my doctor was not concered and after a while the hives disapated. After about 4 months on Paxil my depression for whatever reason became worse, he wanted me to up my dose to 40mg but I couldnt afford it since I don't have insurence. At the time they didnt have generic Paxil so he switched me to Prozac (Fluoxetine). The transition from Paxil to Prozac was smooth, they are in the same SSRI class and it went great. A year ago I had to forgo the medication due to finacial constraints and a few months ago I had the anxiety attacks reserface. This time I had a new doctor since my old doctor retierd, she put me on Zoloft 25mg to start and I had a bad reaction to it, sever heart palps really bad hives and I felt on edge all the time, extream anxiety, I put up with this for 3 weeks befor stoping it on my own. I had another doctors appt last week and told her I couldn't take the Zoloft so she put me back on Prozac 20mg to start. I worry that Ill suffer the same reaction as to the Zoloft. She also gave me Xanax 1mg to get me through. That was a week ago and I have not needed a Xanax YET. I just started the Prozac today and Im VERY nervous. I did well on it befor but who knows now. I understand your fears, we can do this together. Read some of my past post and your will see the High Anxiety I was going through. Take care Cassie

Michael, i don't know much about prozac, but i was told it is a very good drug for panic disorder. my doctor started me on 5mg than after 7 days moved me to 10mg and than after another 7 days to 20mg. i have noticed some side effects such as dizzy, memory loss and a little anxiety with panic attacks. the panic attacks have seemed to decrease for me. it takes 2-4 weeks before we wil feel the full effects. i was on paxil for a very long time and it seemed to work really great, but after 3 years they either needed to change the dosage or change me, which they did.. they put me on lexapro which had no effect on me panic wise. heard it was not drug of choice for panic. i take xanax .25 some days but on really bad days i take .5mg. perhaps you should speak with your doc about how you are feeling. i noticed the higher my prozac dosage the more foggy i feel and tired. again not sure if it is due to my body trying to adjust. i have only been on prozac just shy of 2 weeks..........christina

What dosage of prozac do you guys take.....I cant seem to go higher than 7.5 mg and am having worse panic......do I need to go higher and get worse before I get better? Im also on .25 mg klonopin which helps me sleep but if I take it during the day it wipes me out...Also having intense stomach pains....probably panic again....best,michael

CJ, yes they weaned me off my last med. they thought the prozac would be much better and less side effects, but the way i feel "drugged up", makes me wonder. it's just been a week for me, i know these things take time to work but it sucks. why can't a drug company make faster acting drugs??? go figure. i will deal with the dizzyness and foggy feeling, but i do hope it gets better.

I have been on Prozac for years. I was on Paxil first but like Prozac better. Did they wean you off your last med? Prozac takes 2 weeks to kick in, sometimes longer. I take Xanax with it too (occasionally) with no reaction. Please give it time, but do let your doc know if it keeps bothering you. Cj

Hi all, i have a question. i have panic disorder and have been taking paxil, than switched to lexapro, and now thet have switched me to prozac 10mg. i have been on it for about 7 days. since taking it i have become easily angered, my eyes have become light sensitive, i feel on edge and at times like i am in a fog, not really with it, and dizzy. doctor says the symptoms are normal at first and will go away with time. i am having more panic attacks probably because of the way i feel. she gave me xanax.5mg to take while i taper off the lexapro and ease into the prozac. i am afraid to take the xanax because of how i feel. has anyone who has taken this med felt this way? and if so how long will it last?....thanks, christina
