I dont know if you would call it more attacks around the time i get my period, but one thing that i do have is a funny feeling in my chest and trouble breathing. It usually starts a few days before my period and ends a few days after. I tried slightly increasing my meds the week before like my dr told me, but that doesnt seem to help.
There is definately a link between panic attacks and hormones tho. Why else would women be 3 times as likely to develop panic disorder than men??
I too seemed to get more anxious/panicky around that time of the month so I asked a pshychologist who is really involved in the anxiety field but she told me that there is no connection that she is aware of, I was told to try Omega3 it's good for mood swings, I have yet to try this.
Anyone else familiar with Omega3?
HI everyone:
I've noticed in the last 6 months, that I get a full-blown panic attack at the beginning of my period. It's almost like clock work. It must have a lot to do with hormones and stress.
Carol
I as well am more symptomatic a few days prior to menstration. I absolutely believe the hormones have alot to do with that. Wonder what menopause will be like? LOL
I had asked my doctor about the connection between hormones and panic attacks, and he said that there definately is one. A few years ago he had suggested to me that the week before my period I up my medication slightly inorder to counteract the hormones somehow. I've never tried it, but it might work
now when its cloudy i also feel terrible as i once had a panic attack during a cloudy day
weird, i get the same thing on cloudy days here now. hmmm
Hi, strange, I expereince the same, some time during the month i real feel better although not complete recovery, and some days especially around my period time i really feel terrible teribble, i was also wondering what was the cause, also during seasons, espcially the hot season, i really feel bad i used to be better during cold weather but now when its cloudy i also feel terrible as i once had a panic attack during a cloudy day
i normally have my worst panic attacks a few days before and then during my period.
i know my hormones factor in this, but it's always been denied by the doctors i've seen.
i also suffer from pcos, so my hormones aren't exactly balanced at the best of times.
I always have an increase in my symptoms the week before my period is coming on. You are definetly not alone there. I just try to go with it the best I can. I can only hope that things will get better.
Hi Lolita,
Yes, I always noticed an increase in my anxiety about 2-3 days prior to my time of the month.
I'm now 3 months pregnant and I must say, for the most part, my anxiety has calmed down a great deal. With the exception of the occasional hot flash, which spikes my anxiety, I feel much better. When I do have a panic attack, I know that it's caused by my hormones shifting and I'm able to talk myself down.
Hope this helps,
Sarah :)
