Sometimes it is a very sad thing that gives us that lasting resolve. Josh is proud of you Wendi, as is your family I'm sure and definitely all of us here. Be proud of yourself for it was probably still one of the hardest things you've ever done. Congratulations! I am so sorry Wendi :( I did not mean to bring up any unpleasant memories on your anniversary. I do know how you feel and how hard the loss of Josh must have been for you. and still is. I really am sorry. You have taken a terrible event and turned it into one of the greatest gifts. A smokefree life. The best ever for you and your family, Gwen My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/21/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 150 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,500 Amount Saved: $720.00 Life Gained: Days: 15 Hrs: 1 Mins: 22 Seconds: 7

Our dog that we had from a puppy died on December 17th. That morning we woke up to our new puppy barking and jumping on the bed trying to get us to wake up. We checked on "Josh" and he wasn't doing so well. He laid his head on my leg and put his front paw on my husbands arm and about 3 minutes later he passed. That night, around 11pm our vet called us (he is a family friend) and told us he had, had cancer in his lungs and throat. We laid our last cigarettes down at midnight, the 18th of December, refusing to do any more damage to ourselves, our children or our new puppy that had alerted us to what was going on with Joshy. That is why we picked December 18th. Even a year later, writing about him, he was an awesome dog, make me tear up. I can't believe that I killed something that I loved so much. Not ever will I or any one in my family pick up another killer stick. Congratulations Wendi !! you did it, one year!!! To be proud!! Just curious, why did you choose 12/18 as your quit date?(I have been wondering what motivates people to choose their quit dates) Whatever the reason, it is a great day to celebrate! ;) G My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/21/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 150 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,500 Amount Saved: $720.00 Life Gained: Days: 15 Hrs: 1 Mins: 17 Seconds: 2

Awesome, Wendi! That is an amazing accomplishment. Sharing your story will help people who are sitting on the fence, I'm sure. Do something nice for yourself, okay? One AMAZING year! So many things have changed. Some good, some bad and some terrible, but only one great. But it was a big one. One full year of not smoking! No fumbles, no trips, no slips. This was about the 6th of 7th time of trying and I finally did it. Other than the weight gain (but my family and husband and doctor say they like it, I was awful skinny) that I am still trying to get used to, It is the most wonderful feeling! I can taste food better (maybe that is the problem with the weight), smell better and ooooh my goodness did our coats and hair and house even our children used to smell that bad of cigarette smoke?! The first time I realized how my house used to stink of that smell, my face turned red and I literally hung my head in shame. But not anymore baby! I walk with my head high and am so proud that I am not killing myself or my family or even my pets. I had to watch my American Eskimo dog of 15 years die last winter of lung cancer! How does that happen to a dog, I have never seen him light up. OOOH wait, that was me and my husband doing that to him. When our vet told us why he had died that is when we decided that NO MATTER what it took we were going to quit. If we did that to our dog we could only imagine what we were doing to our 2 children. Sorry I will stop rambling on now, I am just so thrilled to have hit one full year and had to share with someone. I hope today is as rewarding for someone out there as it is for me. This is too good of a feeling to keep to myself. Thanks for always being there to listen when I needed to vent and for always being there when I needed a pick me up or some advice to get through a hard day. You guys were amazing during and still through my quit. Thank you!!!!
