WHEW i was soo happy to see your stats just now after reading your post... After seeing the title i thought you were going to be a one year quitter or something ... and that scares me... knowing that people have HUGE craves after soo long.... BUT well dont to you... for not caving.. I did the same thing on my tenth day when i went to a party... I was drinking and seeing others around me smoke.. i was tempted to have one but no-one smoked MY brand, i told myself if someone smokes MY brand i'll just have 1 puff ... LUCKY for me i didnt find anyone that smoked what i did WHEW lol... and now I am at day 31.... Thanks for all of your wonderful support. Nonic-- you are so articulate. I've noticed the same thing but you write it so much better. Each challenge does build more muscle. I got some great rewards yesterday in the form of gifts from others. They also brought me a chocolate cake that was so rich, that I was pretty sure I needed a prescription to eat it. Today some other friends are throwing me a party. Ole! We are making carnitas and sipping on Margaritas. And no smoking. Everyone at this party has quit. cydeb So glad that you passed that experience and that you landed on the positive side of trial and triumph...I feel for you and understand the mental battle that is the bed rock of this addiction. You beat it again and you will now be able to use this event as a measuring stick to beat up on the monster within the next time around. I found that it is a lot like building physical muscle. You must put tension on the soul in order to increase its durability and strength. It is not pleasant to constantly have to meet the devil at the door, but the good news is that as you successfully manage each encounter, the next one becomes easier to bear... First off, Happy Birthday, deb! You're right..by quitting now you probably have bought yourself a few more of em. It's interesting how those craves/urges/thoughts can come out of nowhere. I'm sure the lack of patch had a big part in it. But also it being your birthday probably played into it as well. What did you used to do to celebrate, reward yourself, or do to hang with your family and friends during birthdays? I bet smoking was in there somewhere. It's actually kind of fun to figure out what is triggering a crave/urge/thought. Once you do that you can figure out an alternative and feel pretty smug for beating the addiction once again. You are really doing this well deb. Keep it up!!!! Like, what kind of fabulous reward are you going to get yourself for hanging in through all that & doing such awesome self-talk??? Way to kick junkie ash, Deb, keep it up. My birthday was today, and I woke up kind of sick with a little bit of something. I went out into the living room and sat down, and that's when the strongest craving I've had since my first week hit completely out of the blue. It really caught me off guard. I hadn't been thinking about smoking at all. So here were my thoughts..... 'Wow, I really want to smoke bad.' 'I could if I really wanted to.' 'My mom has some.' 'I could just have one puff-- who would know, and what difference would it make, and who cares anyway, and it's my birthday, and it's not like I'd smoke a whole cigarette.' 'but I hate my mom's cigarettes.' 'if I'm going to ruin my quit, I'm going to do it with a cigarette that I actually like.' 'If I go to the store and get a cigarette that I actually like, then I'll have a whole pack-- if I have a whole pack, I'll smoke it....... then I'll be smoking again..... not an option.' So that was that. I didn't smoke, and was fairly miserable with cravings today. And pretty out of it as well. Then, after dinner this evening, I went into the bedroom to change into my jammies.... and low and behold, I had forgotten completely to put my patch on (I'm on step 2). So I was having nicotine withdrawals. That helped a lot mentally to figure that out, because the cravings came (it seemed) out of left field. Whoopsie. I almost smoked today-- if I weren't so damn lazy, I probably would be writing about how I toddled off to the store for the 'cool' cigarettes. Happy to say that I got through this "first" (birthday), without lighting up.... but it was a close one. By the way, I just turned 44. The age meter has had me at 44 since I started. I'm throwing that meter into the bonfire :mad: I realized tonight that by quitting, I've hopefully bought myself some more birthdays. May we all have many more to come.
