CVDeb - I get from your post that you are squirmy, unsure, confused, floaty and apologetic ... sorry for laughing, but it makes for a pretty strange picture. Floaty is good - it's all that extra oxygen. As for the rest, they too shall pass. New jobs are never nice - whether you smoke or not, right? If you like structure (like me) it is always a little uncomfortable to begin something new.
You are 7 days in and doing so well. Really, that is the worst part over. I sense real determination and grit from your post. YOU WILL NOT SMOKE! I believe you! Just keep doing what you are doing and before you know it, you will celebrating six months. It does get so much better. Enjoy your freedom!

Hi Danielle,
It's hard to describe, but I think that I am squirmy because this is a new job (I have 2 jobs), and I'm not sure what I'm doing yet.... plus I make my own hours, plus my supervisor is out of town until next Friday. So, making myself hang around can be difficult when I feel a little confused about what needs to be done. So I made some things up for myself to do today that honestly are productive and can get me into very little trouble.
Anyway, I like structure and think it helps with the quit. I already feel fairly floaty with the quit-- need solid stuff to do. I'm not sure if I'm making sense or not (I loved that post someone-- can't remember who!-- posted about constantly apologizing in advance for not making much sense. That's how I feel). Anyway, thanks for asking, and I'm hoping you can pull something salvageable out of this convoluted letter. You are brave to work with us. Or very patient. Probably both :)
Deborah

I'm drawing the curtains to end my 6th day. Tomorrow I'm a week new! It's also a back to work day which is making me nervous. I seem to be fine everywhere else, but struggle a lot at work (go figure). I am visualizing a struggle-free day-- ohmmmmmmm. :) I guess it'll be whatever it's gonna be. I'll deal with it... or I won't. But either way, I will not take even one puff of a cigarette!
Thanks for being there guys. I can't say enough that I truly believe that you have all made the difference between "another failed attempt" and this entirely new feeling of freedom from cigarettes.
Have a beautiful, smoke-free day. :)
Deborah

That's the way, Deb. One day at at a time, one trigger at a time and always reward yourself for it.
You'e almost through the hardest part & you're taking it all on with a fabulous attitude!
You just keep doing what you're doing & that's how you get it done!

You are so awesome, Unhooked. I have loved reading your postings both directed to me, and to others. And you're right, cigs smell pretty bad. I'm just starting to regain my sense of smell (which is good and bad). There are some stinky things out there, my friend!
Maintained my nonsmoking status through some very hard work today. Hiking helped, and so did chomping on a lot of gum. I got very irritated and cranky for the first time (I've heard others talking about it), considered smoking about 12 times today (the usual), but reading posts over and over keeps pulling me out of the trenches and the messed up thinking. Onward to another smokefree day :)

Deb, way to go not giving in to the wine trigger. I can think of a million ways the junkie could have talked you into that one. Bu tyou hung in like the quitter you are. Awesome.
It just about makes me gag to pass a smoker. It makes it much easier to stay quit.
So sorry for your friend's sister's situation. Hopefully, it's early enough that there still might be a good outcome.
You are doing great, Deb. I know the day with your boys was a reward for you & it's wonderful that you had such a good time. But that in itself is a victory, with the wine & everything, so make sure you reward yourself, too, just yourself, for the triggers you get through & the hard thing you're doing so well.
