Panic attack caused by eating binge

Dear John, YOU are definately not the only person who got panic attack after eating. For me, I got my 1st panic attack after a heavy lunch, and under extreamly hot weather. Ever since then, whenever after taken meal, or the wheather is too hot, or I don't have enough sleep and too tired, too angry, too excited, too panic or even when I am imagining myself on the stage giving speech...I would get panic attack!! However, I am recovering now with the help of anti-depressant. Just want to let you know that, you are not alone. Shan

I've had panic attacks triggered by OVEReating fatty/carbohydrate foods. This always causes my heart to race and then I go into full panic mode thinking there's something wrong with my heart.

John- Yes, I do get panic attacks triggered by eating. Because my first panic attack ever happened while I was eating a cheeseburger, I try to avoid them unless I feel "safe". The logical side of me knows that there is nothing in a cheeseburger that can make a person panic, but because of the association with the first panic attack, I have learned to blame the cheeseburgers! Do you think you may be associating the eating with panic just because that's when it happened? Jay

I don't know if this relates, but for me just the thought of eating something can trigger anxiety, because I think 'okay, this food can lead to heart problems and if I eat it I might end up having a heart attack.' It's crazy the kinds of things that can trigger an attack. Take right now for instance. I'm starved, but won't even eat an orange because I'm alone right now and it would more than likely trigger an attack.

John, my second ever panic attack was brought on by going out to eat and getting upset to my stomach. I know that being ill is one of the common original triggers for panic. So, if you made yourself sick with binge eating that might explain it. Good luck finding a way to cope with your anxious times!!!

Well, I guess for me I just say the word PANIC and boom there it is. Always under the surface just waiting to break though. If I eat too much or not enough..it is there. If I choke on something, I am ruined for the night. It all just is so discouraging. I am only glad to see that others understand how I feel. This place is like my therapy.

I was curious as to whether anyone had any experience with or comments about a panic attack caused by an eating binge. I experienced my first panic attack on the night of December 25th 2003 after binge eating during the day. I was wondering if anyone could relate to this or give any comments on the matter. Thanks a lot.
