Something unhooked said tonight sparked a thought. When we are thinking of slipping/caving/giving in, whatever we call it, we tell ourselves something fantasy-based about smoking that makes it okay in our minds to do it. What if we each created a list of reality-based facts about smoking that we could insert, or replace, the fantasy we are telling ourselves. This might help us overcome the craves and/or prevent slips? For example; "I really really need a cigarette" Insert fact after "I really really need": "I really really need to get lung cancer and die" or "I sure wish I had a cigarette right now. It would calm me down and make me feel so much better" Insert fact after "It would": "I sure wish I had a cigarette right now. It would make me start coughing really bad and feel sick to my stomach" I think we could have some fun with this. Anybody else have some suggestions of what to insert in place of the romaticizing thoughts?
