feelings of panic

I know exactly what you are going through! I am going through same thing as we speak. I always second guess myself and wonder if I'm always hearing or seeing the same thing as someone else. I ask my boyfriend and we always hear and see the same. So I know I'm not going crazy but I still tell myself that I'm going to be schizophrenic.I'm sure he wouldve noticed something wrong and he assures me I'm jsut thinking too much about it. I moved to California and I have a lot of free and alone time so I think this is where my anxiety is coming from. The minute I go back home to NJ and see all my friends and family all of this goes away. So that also tells me there is nothing wrong with me. BUT its like an obsession-I cant make it go away!!

I think you can safely assume that if you are worried that you may be experiencing schizophrenia, then you're not. A doctor once mentioned that the only people he ever saw who came to see him believing they were schizophrenic were people experiencing panic disorder. - never anyone experining schizophrenia!! Mel

When I started suffering from panic and anxiety nearly 20 years ago I thought for sure I was schizophrenic. I was in my mid twenties and felt like I was going mad. I didn't hear any voices but I would look at my eyes in the mirror all of the time to see if they looked as tormented as I felt. It was truly a strange time for me so I completely empathize with you. I did recover from that panic/anxiety period but it resurfaced about a year ago and now I am taking meds anddoing well. I hope you use this site for help and support. It has helped me tremendously. Hi Deedles, Although I have never worried about having schizophrenia, I know a fact: Panic disorder and schizophrenia are NOT THE SAME thing. And if you feel you need to, I would go to the doctor just for your reassurance. I hope this helps. Michelle

Hi, I have come to realize, especially through this website, that obsessive thoughts and panic go hand in hand. In my case I obsess over the fact of getting schizophrenia. I fear it so much that when I see something sometimes I wonder if anyone else sees it over if I am having hallucinations. I research about schizophrenia, but it seems that the more I do this, the worse I feel. I worry about this from the time I wake up in the morning until I go to bed at night. Does anyone else have these obsessive thoughts that interfere this much with their day, even if the thoughts are differen't from mine???
