knowledge doesn't help me

Hey Nurseboy, Are you a nurse? I am an RN and I can certainly agree that sometimes a little knowledge is a dangerous thing ;) but, seriously I know what you are going through. If you go down to setbacks you will see where I am coming from. Good Luck to you, Lisa

I know this genius guy, and he always says, that whenever he feels down, he really feels good, because the only thing that can happen is that things can get better...At first I used to think he was an unkind, unloving unthoughtful person, but now I'm beginning to see his logic and humour. If you are at rock bottom now, perhaps things will soon be looking up???? :p

I think knowledge is only the first step. It helps you develop methods to fight the anxiety. Try reading some REBT or CBT books (or the Panic Program here) and then use your knowledge to build a system to defeat the problem. You can do it...I know you can. Mike

Nurseboy, Educating yourself will only help you to better understand and cope with your illness. As much as a diabetic understands his/her illness, it is not going away. We have a mental illness just people have physical illness. Being in healthcare, such as us, think about it, according to the DSM you can diagnose everybody with something in there, even the most "normal" people meet some criteria for some illness. I rather not have a label. I rather say here is my problem I need to work on and work on it. It doesn't make me feel better to know I have GAD or OCD etc...I quit...I quit trying to study my illnesses so much and in my case, that was a small relief but a start for me. Mel

I have read books on panic and anxiety and ocd and have seen some good psychs and read a lot on the web. i am very educated about this stuff. isn't it strange however, that knowledge doesn't help me at all?
