Ex Roller,
Distractions and coping strategies will be important to keep close in the days to come. Sorry to hear today is tough but you're doing it and it can only get easier as you continue to put space between you and your last cigarette.
Keep persevering and keep posting. We are cheering you on! Go cold turkey!
Danielle, Bilingual Support Specialist
I went cold turkey too! Here is my advice - keep your eye on the goal...do you want to be a non-smoker? Then do some deep breathing excercises, drink lots of water, suck on hard candy, do whatever you have decided to do to replace smoking.
Every hour that you don't smoke pat yourself on the back. Soon it will be days, then weeks, then months. It does get easier, some days it is harder, but just keep going.
You have put your body through heck for a long time, it will take time to get over it! But the good news is that you ARE doing it!

It likely will be, Ex roller. And if not, then certainly by the day after that. But you know how this goes... it's tough.
My suggestion is that you keep doing what you're doing... but if it gets so bad that you feel the quit is really in jeopardy... go get the patch or some other NRT. That does prolong things a little, but in some respect that's a good thing. It give you more time to adjust to the psychological/emotional changes without having to focus almost entirely on dealing with the physical withdrawal.
You're doing great, Ex roller!! Hang in there, drink water, suck on candies, raid the fridge if that's what it takes... do whatever you have to do to stay quit. It WILL get better!

I am on day 3 of my quit - this time I decided to go cold turkey as my lasy two quits, one of 9 months and the other just last year of 7 months were both using NRT.
I figured I would try and get rid of the nasty stuff quicker by just stopping without any help and although day 1 and day 2 were reasonably ok, today, day 3 has been super hard - I seem to have had a craving all day long without a break....
I did however go to the playing field just now with my sons and played football and jogged for about 45 minutes - have to take it steady, being a bit of an old bird lol...that did help and I plan on tryiung to take time out for going up the field every day if I can...
I hope tomorrow is easier, I really do...
