Does anybody else have a spouse still smoking???

Hey Jana, Glad to see you still right there with me... ;) My wife still smokes but is very thoughtful and tries not to do it around me and hides her smokes so i never see them. Although I will admit it was easier when she was out of town and i knew there were no smokes in the house. Now I know if I crack they are nearby somewhere. Oh well. She will quit when she is ready. Best of luck My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/12/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 13 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 325 Amount Saved: $65.00 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 17 Mins: 54 Seconds: 41

I have a young adult son who lives with me who still smokes. It hasn't bothered me at all in terms of jeopardizing my quit, because my quit is mine. He actually tried to quit when he saw that I was serious about it. He is still thinking about it, so I am glad about that. When I first quit I loved the smell when he first lit up, now I don't have any reaction to it, although I don't really like the smoke around me. But, I figure I wasn't considerate of him when he was young in terms of the smoke, so I don't feel justified in making ultimatums with him now. He does, however, often go outside or wait till I'm out of the room before smoking. Anyways, that's my experience. -aloha My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/22/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 95 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,800 Amount Saved: $646.00 Life Gained: Days: 13 Hrs: 8 Mins: 34 Seconds: 39

I am very lucky in being single so there is no excuses for me! However, some of my friends come over, and I have told them they are not allowed to smoke in my house - and with that come no excuses. I have also told them to air themselves out so they do not come back smelling like smoke. Smoking is now a pariah and as ex smokers trying to quit, we have to be very defensive especially with our loved ones. I am not suggesting this for you and your husband, but do be mindful that taking just one puff will get you right back to where you once were...and where you are is really where you want to be. Janna, my husband still smokes and always will, I believe. Please do ask your husband not to leave his smokes laying around. For your relationship's sake, better to ask nicely and explain why, than to throw them away, believe me. He doesn't know how tough this is...you have to tell him. Hey Janna! Ask him very sweetly, if and why he is trying to sabatoge you, and when he answes "No", tell him you're gonna have to throw the cigs in the garbage if you find them laying around again, because they are too much of a temptation! That will probably alleviate the problem without a divorce! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 112 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,800 Amount Saved: $1,181.60 Life Gained: Days: 13 Hrs: 17 Mins: 16 Seconds: 19

Janna, Keep that resolve! These emotions are normal, so make sure you explain to your hubby what you are feeling. From your former posts, looks like your at home support is amazing, so make sure you keep pushing forward and vent here! If he leaves them, throw them in the garage and make sure that this is their new home! You can do this :) Josie, Support Specialist

I feel like such a louse today! I traded in depression for hateful yesterday. (Secretly, it felt alot better to be mad than depressed.) My husband still smokes and he is trying not to do it around me, but I still smell it all over him and we were together all weekend - him going out to smoke every hour or so and coming back in smelling of cigarettes to high heaven. He leaves his cigarettes on the counter in our kitchen with the lighter. This always bothers me a little. It is really hard to smell it and see it and know it is right there if I want to grab it, but Sunday I think I really wanted it bad and I was angry, angry, angry that he leaves them there. I have asked him before to please leave them in the garage...etc. Sometimes I believe with all of my heart he wants me to fail. I believe he wants me to smoke so he doesn't feel guilty about it and he can smoke all the time and not worry about having to go outside, etc. Maybe it is all in my head. I feel like he comes in from smoking and intentionally comes near me, kisses me, hugs me, sits next to me.... whatever he can to get close. Or maybe he has always been this affectionate and I just am sensitive to it now. Does anybody else have a spouse still smoking???
