No it is not fair that we go through this but it is part of our recovery and addiction. I am not as far along as you are but I go through periods where I foget I was a smoker and then get blasted in the head both sides for the nicodemon. You just have to be ready for it and ride it out. Try seeing each craving as your body trying to heal itself. Just close you eyes and picture yourself getting better. I know it isn't as easy as it seems but you have to stay commited to the quit to rid the cravings. I don't know if you could have just one and not lose the quit. I think if we all had just one we would all be right back where we started I know I would. Hang tough YOU CAN DO THIS and we are all here for you.

Tryagain, I don't think we can be any more honest or prepared than that. That's the worst case scenario... and if we're ready for that... we're ready for whatever comes. Or, as ready as we can be.
Cathyo... I wouldn't be the least surprized if I experience just what you're going through. I haven't yet; not to the degree that you're talking about... but if I do, I won't be blind-sided. I know that it can happen. There's a lot we can do to lighten the burdon of quitting, but we're human... and we're complex. Things get by us sometimes. And we have to be prepared for the unexpected.
You're doing great! You're addressing an unanticipated challenge right now, but that's fine. You've gone this far... and you've learned a lot about how to deal with this stuff... or you wouldn't have made it this far.

I'm not that far from 6 mos, and I was up almost all night last night wanting to smoke. I was in a lot of pain to begin with my hand was hurting like a you know what, and in the midst of it all, I wanted to smoke so bad, I thought about getting dressed and going out and getting a pack. But I didn't. I stayed awake until 5:30 then got up and started working.
I'm just waiting it out and if it never ends, I'll keep waiting.

NOPE is the only way to go. Just one is never just one. Just one is often, "meh, what's one more?" Then, not only will you have gained 20 pounds but you'll be back to square 1 with your quit.
Please hang in there. The weight gain is temporary. It will come off. Instead of lighting up, treat yourself to something else that is enjoyable and pleasurable.

I am pretty certain that if you wait this out, your life will go back to the blissful place where you don't even think about cigs. BUT, if you smoke, you will enhance the cravings, reinforce the cravings, feed the cravings, prolong the cravings. That would be even more torture; self-inflicted torture! You have come sooo far. Do not smoke now. You are experiencing a rough patch, but it will not last forever. Stay close to the site. Use your coping techniques. Do something out of the ordinary, take a bike ride, go swimming, go to the library. You can do it cathyo. You will be so thankful if you keep this quit.

No it's not fair but it happens. Try to figure out what would trigger cravings. Changes, being around smokers, bad experience/ Also don't think you can have just ONE!!!! It has been documented here and I'm one of them who thought so after a year quit. There is no such thing as just one. One more won't hurt and then you're back to the beginning and have to start all over again. Maybe time for a reward. Go someplace where there is no smoking. (there are tons of places now) Go to the Mall, a bookstore whatever just don't smoke

I thought I had it beat. I had stopped even thinking about it. For the last 2 weeks I have such strong cravings! I can't concentrate. I think about going to the store and buying them - just to have ONE.
It's not fair! I already put on 20 pounds over this and I am struggling with the weight! It's not fair I should be torchered like this again!
